Exactly, I know him by his fragrances. Older noses say L’eau d’Issey was reformulated several times since it’s inception in the 90’s, and that the original fragrance was really iconic. Even today, many describe it as a perfect office fragrance.

I don’t quite like l’Eau d’Issey even tho I like fresh and citric fragrances, but there’s another Miyake fragrance that I really love and I will probably buy this coming fall: Fussion d’Issey, a much darker and intense fragrance.

Rest In Peace.
You sir, sound like you have great taste!

No, but it was an iconic look for one man. And that one man went on to change the world.

Crazy that a seemingly simple turtleneck and denim jeans could be seen as iconic but Steve Jobs pulled it off.

Even Zuckerberg and his t shirts don’t have that effect.
Steve jobs made the turtleneck somewhat iconic. The fashion itself was not iconic. Any clothing that someone like jobs wore would have attained iconic status simply because of who was wearing it. As an item of clothing it is generally regarded as unflattering and far from iconic in style trends of any era.

I liked Job's look from afar but close-up pics are so-so... but what do I know, I wear Gap crap

Issey was a genius as well. If you have ever smelled any of his fragrance line you would understand how ahead of his time he was.
In the beginning there was just one scent - L'Eau d'Issey. I still use the cologne and the shower gel. But there was once a legendary time when L'Eau d'Issey was available as a bar of soap. In my entire life I have never used a product so magnificent and life affirming as that soap. Each bar came in a clear acrylic box and cost about $18 but WOW was it worth it. I was CRUSHED when it went out of production.

Wut!? I'll have you know that mock turtle necks are all the rage in the 25th century, especially the red, blue and mustard colored ones.

I want a blue one with 2 pips.🖖

RIP to Issey Miyake, who was a cultural icon in his own right.

The rest of you people are weird. A man passed away. He happened to have designed a piece of clothing loved by Steve Jobs. Have a little bit of respect for both, perhaps?

This is not at all the kinds of life details I'd expect to learn from someone named @CrapShack ...

Everyone hates the idea of uniforms until they try them. I attended a school with uniforms and it was transformative — the uniforms gave us a sense of shared identity, greatly reduced cliques and class distinctions, and made mornings super easy. I could see uniforms working really well in the right corporate environment.

The main problem I've seen with uniforms is that they're usually made out of polyester, which is not comfortable. I worked in a hospital and wore scrubs all day. That was the best.

Yeah, as much as I respect and admire Jobs, Miyake was by far the greater creative genius.... Which is precisely why Jobs wanted to connect his name to Apple. The stuff Miyake did with pleats and materials was absolutely stunning and unmistakably his own (obviously there's a lot more than that, but it's the stuff that really blew me away and that I always attached to his name).

Jobs was mostly an "ideas guy" and a good talker. Miyake was a creative force unto himself.

Collectors wear black clothes

Fine, I’ll say it….the turtle neck was not a leap in design language.
Yes a friend and I used to do keynote parties and I'd wear one with jeans as a bit of a joke.

It did not cost me $270. It cost more like $5...

Guessing this guy taught Jobs how to do the hard sell? 'Sell me this pen' kinda style :D

True, an uncomfortable uniform would be awful. But a uniform can be *very* comfortable. Scrubs are a good example, and I suspect what Jobs had in mind would have been as well.
