Just bought the M5 Pro and I cannot believe they are shipping this thing with a 1 meter USB-C cable when the device costs $1,300. They ship far cheaper MacBook Air’s with a 2 meter charging cable.

If you want to charge this thing and still use it you must be extremely close to an outlet. I should not have to think about this with a device so expensive.

Is there any device that ships with a 6-meter cable? My iMac mini did not, nor my wife’s Surface Book Pro, nor any of the dozens of other computing devices we’ve had since our Apple II+ and our newly-minted IBM PC back in 1981.
While I appreciate your desire to immediately respond with a snarky quip, it was a typo that I fixed very quickly.

Nothing snarky, regret you interpreted it that way. I wondered why you thought it should have a 6-meter cable. And I happened to graze by your thread/post at the time so I responded. Sheesh.

When you choose to list out various computers you’ve owned over the last 40+ years to drive home just how bizarre you think something is, it’s going to be interpreted as snark by a lot of people.

Also, if someone starts talking about 6 meter cables shipping with devices, it seems rather obvious it was a typo.

Time for a class action suit! LOL!

Typical user is likely someone with table, power outlet and iPad in proximity. Large fraction of users will be happy with 1m, light, cable. 95+% users probably has surplus of USB-C cables (with power capabilities needed for iPad) already around, so they could stop shipping cables (for me) and I would not care.

I mean, how else will they be able to sell you an additional longer cable?

I hope this is sarcasm. Cables break and they get lost.
So when it breaks you can buy a new one? I think long term it makes a lot of sense. If laptops are all switching away from "bespoke" barrel plugs and adapters to use USB-C, I don't need or want a new brick or cable every time I get a new device. Something that I think would improve this for consumers is if there was a stipulation that the company would be required to provide a charger at no cost when you purchase the product if you request it. Companies like Apple would obviously work this into their pricing structure, and it would also avoid the flatulence that is needing to buy $130 worth of charging equipment if/when you spend $2-3k+ on a device.

I bought the long magsafe cable and i reget it. It is just way to long to comfortably use it.
A few years ago, I got so frustrated at not having any long cables on hand that I started buying 6ft+ cables exclusively. In hindsight, it was a mistake... 99% of the time it was an unnecessary waste and sometimes actually more of an inconvenience than a shorter cable would have been. They're a godsend for that 1% of times where you need them though, no getting around that.
