Is it just me, or since that "I'm not cool enough for a Mac" ad have there been more threads than usual about how windows machines are cheaper?
Actually this thread is about windows machines being more powerful. The price part just came up when comparing, um, apples to apples (or dells, as it were :D )

"Proven"? By whom?

Anybody with the ability to type in a web address like www.lenovo.com or www.dell.com. (Might want to try www.lenovo.com/cpp and "familyandfriends" or www.dell.com/epp for added salt in the wound --- there is more than one way to skin the windows cat.)

^ what dlhuss said. I don't mean or intend to be a d--- but I can't believe that was an actual question. I would be lying if I said Apple didn't offer solid products, but I can't justify Apple's price tag on their computers - often more expensive than their PC counterparts for approx. the same specs.

Here's an article you may find interesting.

On Blu-Ray:

http://www.cepro.com/article/blu_ray_adoption_wont_happen_until_2009_research_finds/

"The interest in upgrading to high-def players is only mild, and Blu-ray ownership won’t hit 25 percent of US households until the end of 2011, as reported by Reuters/Hollywood Reporter."

"Disc ownership is down among Blu-ray owners compared to first-time DVD owners, who owned nearly 30 titles at the same point in the adoption curve, according to the report. Blu-ray households own an average of three titles a piece."

"Plus, since the vast majority of Blu-ray players are in homes because Sony has embedded them into the PlayStation 3 video game consoles, many consumers don’t seem to care that they even have a Blu-ray player."

Blu-ray may not matter to the average consumer but the average consumer isn't in the market for a high end laptop either. The fact that Apple has neglected to add Blu-ray to the MBP or desktop computers is certainly noticed by that market.

Of course, Apple computers of every type continue to sell very well so I'm sure they feel some flexibility in terms of when to introduce this technology--if ever. It's a gamble in the long run.

Apple is going to have to decide if they will continue to focus on being a manufacturer of computers or if they will evolve soley into handheld technology and software. Eventually, the outdated and/or overpriced specs of their machines will catch up to them in the marketplace.

I am just stating that other manufacturers pro machines are really pro.

Apples pro machines aren't. They are nice to look at and thin but cannot be considered pro or in the same league as the other laptop manufacturers pro offerings.

Ridiculous. Longer feature list != pro. Pros buy everything for a purpose. Depending on purpose, one comes down to several required features. (N.B. Guess it: best of the best GPU or hottest CPU very rarely count as "required" features.) Based on the required features one picks best offer. Support options and speed of service also come as parameters. Because as pro one also tries to plan ahead how the laptop going to be serviced in case of problem. But then, most businesses have already support arrangements - what often limits brands you can buy.

Apple is not best "Pro" offer for a simple reason that they are not very configurable. Most businesses would generally pick cheapest out of all cheapest possible laptops - some would even bargain with OEMs to get it even cheaper - but one which has the required features. And not a slightest damn extra feature/$$$ more.

That means that very very few pros would ever see the laptop configs people throw here around as comparison with Apple ware. The comparisons are absolutely baseless. (Heck, in a sense even recent M$ ads have more bearing.)

People who buy Macs are generally people who choose to buy a Mac. And that alone says very much. Very few companies give an option to its employees to pick a ware they think is best for their work. Most pros have little to no say in buying decisions - IT has it all prepared for them.
