on opening day at the Domain, the apple people came out with a 3G phone to show people in line. I looked at it, and saw the E. i asked the guy "i thought it was supposed to be 3G"
he said the apple store is actually on a 3G boundary and they dont get coverage there.
Really? Cause ATTs website says theres plenty around that area, and oh look at that. i have 3G, but with only 2 bars
me thinks they turned off 3G so people wouldnt be discouraged by the low signal it picks up
See I have a 2G Iphone and I've been lusting after the 3G but there are now two strikes against it:
1) No more chargin in-car when I connect to my Alpine HU. Why the heck they wrecked this is beyond me because charging the phone on my 15 minute commute never hurt and with 3G battery life couldn't do anything but help. Only thing I can think is they wanted a proper charge regiment on the phones (fully discharge, charge)
2) 3G coverage. ATTs map shows blue all over the Austin area. Yet I've not heard of many people getting more than 2 bars. 3 guys at my work have 3g. We work downtown...you'd expect 5 bars there...but only 3 MAX. WTF is that about? Its bad enough that 2 of them just shut of 3G because the coverage isn't worth the battery drain...
