To set the record straight; I have paid for every thing I own. I am legitimizing stealing; stealing is stealing but caveat here is that companies, multinational, multimillionaire megacorporations do it all the time. It's just in the way you choose to look at it. So long as the law clearly says such and such act is stealing, I would personally not do them but if you see justification yourself, go ahead. So to put it unequivocally clear, if I were in OP's shoes, I would scream until I fainted then demanded a new iPod.

This has nothing to do with a scam, it's just expecting a purchase to perform as advertized.
The last time I checked, the iPod touch was never advertised to be washing machine-proof, or even waterproof for that matter...

And trying to conceal information from people trying to help you is a scam, especially when you're just trying to rip them off for your own benefit.

And to the OP, sorry about your loss. Hopefully you can get a new one, just don't try to scam the company that makes great products like that. At worst, you'll have to save up for a new one but with spring break probably coming up for you, maybe you could do some odd jobs around the neighborhood.

I had the same thing happen to me and my iPod nano.

I washed it, it worked and then the battery died.

Apple wouldn't repair it (no warranty), so I took it to FastMac (http://fastmac.com/) and they replaced the battery and it's fine now.

Might want to look into that.

Good luck with that.

Whoops, I meant to say not.

Sigh. You should never type when your brain is tired and frayed. I've had probably 5 hours of sleep in the last two days.

Anyway, I agree with what Akronradi has to say. It was negligence that caused the iPod's demise and asking for a new replacement is out and out fraud.

Ah, tyops are forgivable. Especially with sleep deprivation! I hope you get some rest soon. :)

Insurance

You could see if your contents insurance on the house will cover it. Although the excess may be high and it could affect your premium afterwards, there's no harm in finding out.

also

If you have an Apple store nearby, take it to them and ask for a replacement. If it was purchased at another retailer, take it to them and ask that it be replaced.

The important part is DON'T tell them what happened. Just show them that the thing isn't working properrly and let it go at that.

except also that could be considered warranty fraud and I am sure would be discouraged from being a topic on their site. Besides the point is it is stealing.

Call, ask, explain what happened, be truthful and maybe something good will come of it.

(coming from the guy who fried his touch (similarly) and got a brand new one shipped in the mail out of warranty for absolutely nothing)
