I just use the CNN app. Sure there are ads, but at least it's easy to read. I read my local newspaper on my iPad because otherwise there are google questionaires on every article.

Being tied (subscribed) to a particular news source does not work if you want to see all the news. You may think that they publish all the news that's out there, but they don't. One single person at each organization controls what gets said and how it gets said. So really, only a handful of people control the whole national media content. One person controls cnn, another single person for CBS, one for NBC, etc.

Remember when the Newsweek editor killed the Monica and Bill scandal story because he's a registered democrat and didn't want it published? Or how about when CNN threatened to instantly fire any reporter who used the word "scandal" in anything regarding bill Clinton? Or, most recently, how about the almost nationwide news blackout about Hillary's Benghazi scandal? Haven't heard of it? Well, duh.

I remember when we used to laugh at the soviet union's control over their one newspaper, Pravda, and how they kept their entire population in the dark about the rest of the world. Now we have the same thing in the US, with the mainstream media choosing what they want and don't want the public to know.

Sounds to me like the issue goes well beyond the iPad for you.

Atomic browser with built in ad-block works just fine for me on my ipad 7.1.1. set to declare itself as Safari desktop, so no unwanted 'mobile' sites either.

So only the "liberal" media hides the truth, eh? Yeah...
