Google it. Actually, just search here on MR. There were people who scoffed at the iPhone. And not just the price. Ditto the iPad (which SJ also gave the green light).

Exactly. It's funny how he ignored it when I said it. Now he dismisses it, with no validity to his dismissal, just a lame incorrect statement.

People had not seen anything like the iPad or iPhone when they came out. They were game changers. Smart watches have been around for a few years now. No one is saying the watch won't be AWESOME, but it's concept isn't revolutionary. I think that's his point.

Yeah. I get that, but (technically) smart phones existed for years before iPhone came out. Ditto tablets.

The execution is the revolutionary part.

And yet here you are posting in the Watch forum.

I never look where a thread is located before I post. I am just in the new posts page of Macrumors. It's not like going in the watch forums just to troll.
If you people don't understand what I trying to say here then I can't help. I have learned after so many years in the IT industry that being a fanboy is not good. I was one and I know.
I really tried liking the Watch but couldn't. Even ordered one but cancelled later.
I love technology and want to have all gadgets, but I know that this is not possible since I am not rich. I try to at least justify my purchases to myself and the watch was just not justifiable to me. Maybe the second generation.

Yes I had a blackberry (one of those dark blue ones with that plastic black antenna you could pull out, lol) but the iphone and ipad were game changers; not necessarily the first of their kind. I just think it's ok to have perspective about this watch. I'll never let something shiny and new blind my perspective, maybe my eyesight, but not my perspective. Don't see the Apple Watch being a game changer but it's probably a wonderful edition to the smart watch community. I can't wait to get mine.

Couldn't care less about the Apple Watch. For me this is like a Samsung product. Wants to achieve too much, is slow and totally cluttered. I cannot support Apple in this, even if I love their products. Steve would never let the Apple Watch get out of their labs..

hehe. Can't wait for mine.

I am skeptical of the Apple Watch, but I will reserve judgement until it's actually in the hands of everyday users.

Oh, same. I have no clue what will become of Apple Watch. Nobody knows yet. :)

Seriously?? He let the original iPhone get out with it's turtle slow EDGE system. It was the uniqueness that sold it, certainly not it's speed. Compared to that I think this is starting well ahead of it's game. Of course improvements will come, as they always do.

Yesssss!

Let's not focus on the negativity here. In my opinion, this is a new page for the post-Jobs era of Apple and I couldn't be more excited! This is also a big step for Tim as acting CEO since Steve's death. In short, I am VERY EXCITED! :apple:

Then try to see and examine Apple's line-up. The only confusing product that Apple has is the Apple Watch. Everything else is intuitive and simple...

:apple:Watch looks pretty easy to use, especially compared to other smartwatches currently out there. It's not the :apple:Watch is trying to do more or less then others, its that its simpler to use.

Is setup going to be more time consuming, yes. Only because you will need to determine what apps you want on :apple:Watch and which you don't.
For example, I have notification turned on my phone for the Slickdeal app, but I would NEVER turn those on for an :apple:Watch. I get probably 3-4 notifications an hour during the days time just from that app. I might do the same for twitter and FB.
Its all about the initial setup, just like an iPhone. If you don't the setup correctly, it will be an annoying product.

To be honest, I'm sort of disappointed.

The reasons are mainly that I bought the watch for software development, didn't get the band configuration I wanted because of delays (and needed it soon), don't think the product can live up to its hype, am still concerned not about what the battery life that's reported is but what MY actual battery life will be, and don't want to have to show it and demo it to absolutely everyone else who is curious about it but hasn't actually done any research.

Still, we don't even know when they'll arrive! Hopefully we'll know soon.

Yes, I'm excited! Apparently, unlike you. True the watch seems to be trying to be everything to everyone, but no more so than a regular computer. I plan to resist the temptation to download every app that catches my eye and slowly discover what works best for me. I think the tag-line "most personal product yet" is very appropriate. And I actually like the fact that the limitations of the watch force developers to streamline their data flows. It's really a new paradigm that other smart watch makers are not really tapping into well.

Marketing power isn't a marvel. Apple could produce an expensive toilet paper and everybody would want it.

Thats not true, the have had products flop. Do you remember "Ping" the music oriented Facebook that Apple tried to create. I tried it, and it was terrible. All the talking up they did for it couldn't help it. Granted they didn't market it much but they had musicians on board and it failed. What about iTunes Radio? They have marketed that pretty good and even being installed automatically on everyone's phone, I don't know a single person that uses it.
I tried but found that the music curation in iHeartRadio and Spotify to be better, that isn't even counting the mother of all streaming platforms, Pandora.

Not everything Apple produces will sell or be used. Only good ideas.

This!!!
Lol, I wish the mods would make a sticky that said: "you, in all actuality, do NOT know what Steve Jobs would or would not do... so ****".

If I recall correctly, Steve Jobs told Tim Cook not to do what Steve would do, but do what Tim would do. So many people seem to forget that during the last two years of Steves life Tim was running the company. Also I keep seeing people say wait for version 2. Well in my experience version 2 may arrive, but an individual may be gone, or not in a financial position to afford one. People are so sure of their future that living for today gets lost. I rather have it and find out it is not all of that than not get it and miss all of the fun.
Just my 1.5¢. #

This.
I'd give you 10 up votes if I could. The only reason not to buy is if you really don't want it or it would cause financial strain for you or your family. Not being an early adopter is reasonable but life is too short to wait for Version 2.

Ping was a failure but was not a hardware Apple produced and sold. You cannot compare it.

Yes, exactly. The problem is though that Tim will never be Steve. Normally this won't be a problem for such a big company. The only issue I see is on the long term if Apple doesn't innovate as much as in the past years.
I love what Apple has done with the Mac, love the iPhone but the Watch seems not ready to me.

Guess the old adage of "Only time will tell". I won't pretend to know the future, but for me I'm willing to take a chance. After using a pebble for two years with intermittent problems I kept thinking if… Well by looking at the demos, and reading the reviews I have seen all of the ifs that I thought of covered plus the possibility of many more, just because of the deeper integration with the iPhone. That does not make the watch a silver bullet by any measure, but without us (sheeple) as us early adopters have been called, then there would be no chance for progress without us complaining about what we don't like, and praising what we do. In the words of Johnny 5; "input" without it there will be no moving forward.

Well, this started off as a fun thread for those of us that are excited for Apple's newest endeavor. Either way, it's still a watch with several things that my TAG and Oakley watch will never do. Still another watch for my collection. Happy Apple Watch week everyone!!! (For those that do care)

A product is a product. Hardware product or software product, they are still products made by the same company. Ping was a product that failed. iTunes Radio as of right now is pretty much a failure, it has the chance to get better but rumors seem to indicate it will be replaced shortly by a Beats inspired service.

Plus they have had plenty of failed products, we don't even have to go that far back in time. Remember the iPod shuffle 3rd gen, a thin, tall device that sported no controls on the device? That thing was only around for 18months before being killed to returned to a device design very similar to the previous design. That product could be considered a flop given the lack of sales and controversy given you couldn't use any other headphones with it.
