I do both

Well for work I use a loaded thinkpad for programming and for personal use I have turned to a macbook. My heart belongs to my MB. Rather than an apple sticker on my thinkpad, I have a sticker that that says "I want to run OSX when I grow up"
...Nuff said.:D

Here in Puerto Rico the sales of mac computers are impresive... Thanks to the Ipod a lot of people here now know about Apple. In my college like 45% of the Engineering Students (Including Me) have a macbook or Pro

Too bad thats an HP and not an Acer ;)

I just switched to Mac and it is not because everyone else has one... it is because I finally came to realize that there is no reason to settle with a default operating system... windows blows.. i repeat blows compares to os x.. and as a very very recent switcher I understand why the macbook is flying off the shelf.

why buy anything else?

You're still in the "honeymoon" phase.

You'll be singing a different tune a year into it. I've had my MacBook for more than a year and two months now. I've had OS X (two different systems, two different versions of OS X) lock up more times than I ever had Windows lock up in nearly 2 decades. I was in the middle of a Skype call last night. OS X completely froze for seemingly no reason. My 7 month old HP has not even so much as become unstable in the time I've owned in, and its running Vista!

I switched to Mac because I needed a new machine and needed a change. Not once has my Macbook let me down.

Also, I don't get why people think the white Macbook is ugly. I love it. Maybe it's because the apple logo is less prominent in the daylight than with the blackbook. :p

I agree!!! I have used windows for years and I now have 2 years under my belt using macbooks and my macs run 3,000 times better than any of my pcs did. Even my wife who hates computers loves her macbook better than any pc she has used. Go Apple!!!!! :apple::p:D:):D:D:D:D:apple::p:D:):D

I can't believe Apple is selling a MacBook with a faster processor than mine for cheaper than I got mine!

I got mine about $200 cheaper than normal because it had been on display for almost a year. My MacBook has a 2.16GHz Processor :(

Stoopid rip-off Noel Leemings.

Anyway, I would kill for a BlackBook. My WhiteBook is seriously scratched, and I've only had it for a couple of months. Plus, I used some heavy-duty cleaner on it - and I realized just how dirty the Whiteys get!

Anyone want to trade?

I owned a 1st gen [white] MacBook and absolutely loved the look. Just recently sold it and, even though I mocked people in the past for paying the "black tax", I am now considering a blackbook. Primary reason? Simply because I've had the white and now want something that looks different. I am considering colorware too, but am not sure I can justify that price.

I've owned a Blackbook since the first one came out and to be honest the white one wares better. That's why (after learning about the Intel delay ) I just ordered one.:)

Correct me if i am wrong, but aren't the current gen blackbooks significantly different in finish and texture (than the originals, that is)?

Wow..i just wish that could happen in my university in Thailand...but i bet it would never happen. HP, Toshiba, ASUS and especially ACER sold very well here..

I am travelling to Hongkong right after WWDC to get the latest macbook black (re-design) i hope.

Please don't disappoint me apple, i hope the re-design case would look a mind-exploding!

Btw, is macbook black good enough for normal business presentation ? I don't use photoshop or other graphic needed applications. I better hope the answer 's yes.

Refugees

I made the switch in December because I didn't want to deal with vista and all the new versions of it's traditional problems. I felt initially felt reluctant to make the switch, but was happy when I got home.

Oh, it's like that in Malaysia too, where the politicians and bean-counters run universities...

Yup, a MacBook will do that quite well. Just remember to get a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter to connect a MacBook to the projector.

I switched in November'07. The thought of buying a new laptop and then run a five year old copy of XP does not appeal. Couldn't been happier picking up the MacBook!

Then you're lucky/unlucky. I don't think that's a typical experience. Certainly not for me.

Apple Sticker

I have Apple sticker patched on back of my ThinkPad so it looks a bit like back MacBook. I tend to get same curious looks as when I use iBook in public places until they realize it's not a Mac. :D

:D Me too, I have one as well on the top corner on my HP lappy :) Thought it was cool, I copied it from the man who started the NZ equivalent of E-bay and sold it for around half a billion dollars! He can deeeefinitely afford a Mac lol.

I have a 20" iMac at home so I'm not the NOOB people call me haha :)

laziness!! i just don't agree with more money for a color.

Well, I also don't have to worry as much about scratching as much. That's a big one for me as well. I'd get really paranoid about my iBook getting scratched and used Ice Creme to get rid of the scratches. That's a lot of work too. Now it's just iKlear once a week and the BlackBook is fine. That may not be worth it to you, but it is to me. BTW- if you remember, I got mine on an open box discount at Best Buy. I only paid $50 more than the white. But now that I own one, I'd pay the extra $200 in a heartbeat next time around. The black one has just been so much less hassle and worry.

Just to offer a different user experience and IM not exaggerating when I say that in 3 years I have never had the experiences you have. It's odd how some have these issues while many others do not? I wish you the best experience in the future and hope you find out why these things occur. ;)

I concur^^^, I recommend that the poster go back to their HP Vista, Mac OS X maybe a bit too much for you to handle and too expensive, after all those problems. I also concur, Mac OS X doesn't work for "everyone!" :(

What's wrong with artists.......

Hmmm, I have heard that they are sometimes a little oversensitive....

......honestly, it makes me ill when people say s*** like that. The world would suck without us, whether you want to admit it or not. You wouldn't have half the crap you like without creative people.

Nah, I must have heard wrong :D

While I agree that macs are pretty good, I don't think many of you have used vista for an extended amount of time... it's quite nice and I'm using it now. It's not as bad as people made it out to be when it first came out...

I don't really mind what OS i use so long as it's stable. However there are some things that bug me with Vista, is it at all possible to disable or turn of the repeated warnings?

It seems whenever something needs to access the internet, i have to check OK! Then on my next session, I get asked again and again... it's like my Vista has amnesia!!
