Wireless with Apple's Airport cards is almost a no-go with Snow Leopard

I've had zero problems with my wireless on my MBP and I've not read any other complaints. I'd dare say the problem isn't terribly widespread.

Since I've loaded Snow Leopard, the Airport performance on my Core Duo MBP has been faultless. I'd had loads of problems with losing the Airport connection using both Leopard and Tiger and had assumed that it was a hopeless case which would never be fixed. :)

SL has been a welcome upgrade for me having been quite stable and fast for the most part. Sure, Ive had a few issues but it has been because of 3rd party software, 32/64 bit issues.

Actually I have my mbp sleep issues, almost narrowed down to two 3rd party apps and/or one daemon. Sure there are still some issues out there, but with time things will iron out. SL was quite an overhaul.

I've been on SL almost since the beginning. Only recently have I had the wireless issues (around the release of 10.6.2). Basically, you lose connection to the router. Sometimes it comes back on its own. Sometimes it requires turning Airport on and off. Sometimes it requires a full reboot (modem, router and computer). As days go on, it seems to get worse.

Home network, BTW, includes a Wii and a Windows machine and we've had zero connectivity problems with them.

Today I'm starting an experiment to see what issues we have under Leopard, using an HD cloned just before the SL upgrade. I've gone about an hour with no issues, which is better than SL lately.

Just updated a couple weeks ago. Had to wait till I could spare some change for a new HDD, as my MBP's OEM 120G was tapped out.

But it's all good, so far. I installed the drive (320G/7200), restored from my TimeMachine backup, updated to SL. Only "issue" was it told me it couldn't copy my users, but a quick run through Migration Assistant cured that.

Even cloned & expanded my BootCamp partition via WinClone!

SL does seem snappier, but some (or all) of that could be the 7200 RPM drive. But also, the machine seems to run cooler, with better balance between the two cores.

Now if onlly I could get rid of the last vestiges of PPC Code. I've got some apps that I can't update just yet that are still PPC, but there's something that runs every time I boot that uses PPC code, and I can't seem to figure out if it can be run with Intel code or not. It's not something running when I log in, but something in the OS. I've done searches, and it appears to be important, but, of course, I can't recall the name right now!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

If I wasn't so lazy ad knew how too I'd uninstall SL and go back. So far the only thing I've noticed of merit is the quicktime player borderless kiosk mode.... absolutely brilliant. Outside of that.... Nothing.

Burning a disk now takes three times as long, that bloody beach ball spends more time on my screen than the at the seaside and webpages take and age well ok 5 to 6 seconds to load.

It's more just basic frustration than actual problems that annoy me.

I've been thinking of going Snow Leopard but has so far held back because:

1) Don't see anything that would offer me a noticeable benefit
2) I run a hackintosh desktop and if I upgrade my MBP I would want to upgrade the desktop which is just too much work atm. Plus it runs nice and stable don't want to mess with it.

Leopard. I can't stand the exposé in snow leopard, but otherwise I didn't have see any difference.
Seeing as you're only barking about Snow Leopard, the $$$ we "wasted" was only $29. About the price of a good pizza and beer that only last one night. Honestly, based on how unhappy you are, I think you should take your own advice and head back to the wonderful world of "life without walls".

If $30 is a nothing to you, can I give you my paypal address?

$30 shouldn't be anything anyone on this forum as many people here have bought the top of the line i7 27" iMac, and have spent anywhere from $1000-$3000 USD on any other Macintosh computer. These same people seem to have enough cash to buy a copy of Windows 7 AFTER they'e spent $$$ on their new Mac. If you can't even spend $30 on your computer then you shouldn't be spending money on a Mac. :p

Just installed Snow Leopard on my new Macbook after my Leopard running Powerbook G4 broke. Loving the speed so far.

Been running Snow Leopard on at least one of my MacBooks since release day.

Had a few issues with OpenGL and downgraded my production MB left the OH's MB (the test system) on 10.6.1 as her requirements meant Snow was fine.

Since 10.6.2 been running it on both the MacBooks, and it's been faultless. Finally deleted the CCC 10.5.8 backup.

Finally left Leopard behind for good when my Power Mac G4 died. Replaced it with a 27" iMac which obviously came with Snow, and that has been faultless.

While the noticeable differences in Snow Leopard from Leopard are subtle, so subtle that some users wont even notice the upgrade, the vast majority of users will find that there's certainly no reason not to upgrade.

I've found 10.6 to be both reliable and fast in all of the installs and upgrades I have done.

For the very small cost of 10.6 it makes sense to avail oneself of the under-the-hood improvements unless one has a very compelling reason not to do so.

Snow Leopard for me. This is the first time I upgraded an Apple OS (my Mac came with Leopard), and there were a lot of complaints about bugs. However, I was used to Windows upgrades, so it seemed seamless in my eyes. Also the complaints about the fact that there are very little changes... do you guys expect your GUI to change as dramatically as Vista did from XP every new OS?

I think all Mac users, just for a week, should go back to using XP. They will then appreciate their mac a whole lot more.

Using SL since day one and before my iMac died i liked the speed improvements on startup and shutdown and few tweaks here and there but Safari used to give me beachballs more often than under Leopard. Hated new Expose though. I knew before i bought it that there wasn't going to be any major new features as such so i thought the price for it was fare. Im not sure i would have upgraded if it was full price though

i upgraded as soon as it was released. The only problem I had was in relation to printers; they removed AppleTalk, so my old printer (connected via ethernet) doesn't work. I can't seem to get it to work on TCPIP. I had an airport express lying around, so now it's being used as a print server.

System response seems faster from wake, and joining wifi networks is definitely faster.

i have two old ppc one on leopard other on tiger

my MacBook and iMac are both on snow.

Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro

Leopard on my Powerbook, 2009 Mac Mini, and my iMac

Upgraded the Macbook Pro first just to try it out, no issues, so then I updated the Mac Pro thinking I'd use it as a file server with the Wake on Wireless, which I then found out is not enabled for my 8 core 2008 Mac Pro (total BS)

Still no issues with it

I haven't upgraded my Mini as it's just a HTPC and since I use PLEX I'm waiting for the next full round of updates to the .9 version of PLEX to avoid any issues.

The Powerbook is out because its a PPC

And the iMac is a Core Duo White iMac, not a Core 2 Duo so I know I'm not going to get any big boosts out of it, hence no reason to upgrade.

I jumped on the Intel bandwagon after retiring a Powermac G4 Quicksilver which is still up to this very day running Tiger wonderfully. And yes, with the new Flash player beta release, it can even play youtube! After all these years! :D

SL on my new mac mini has been marvelous. And yes, as stated in my other post my old HP LaserJet working just fine with it! Also my HP scanner from 2005 scanning its way up like there's no tomorrow! :)
