And now, Doctor, let the Pineapple-to-Apple streaming begin

It's been way too long since an internationally-respected producer of computing devices had billions of dollars spare to cultivate and decorate a single massive genetically modified potato at its corporate headquarters.

The Broadwell Core M chips (ultra low power) are supposed to ship this month. Those would be used in a new Macbook Air and possibly in a Mac Mini. The higher power Broadwell chips for the Macbook Pro won't be out until next year.

The only way that I can see them releasing an updated MBA is if it's a completely different model, e.g. the fanless 12" version that has been rumored. The existing models were updated not all that long ago, and though the update was minor, if Apple was planning on releasing another big update so soon I think they would have just waited.

Yep. The 12" fanless model sounds exactly like a Macbook Air designed around the Core M chips. I think Apple is just waiting on Intel here.

TV or something complementary.

Add to the fun: Apple headphones (not earbuds) that might partly negate the requirement to have a nearby iPhone to get the most from an Apple Watch. (That's stretching the fun; it doesn't fit the 'too long' idea.)

This image?

I would never have seen a fingertip in that, not without someone making the suggestion. And I can't imagine a rippled touch to a touch-sensitive device.

It's obviously the top of the apple logo with leaf. :)

Yep, I recognised it immediately … but I wonder whether it's obvious to all people who have not previously seen Apple using that type of image in marketing.

Some youngsters might never (or rarely) think of an Apple logo as using rainbow colours, and so on …

That's it! Changing it back to a rainbow apple. No more monotone white.

They going back to the rainbow? That be cool but I doubt it.

Honestly I have no idea what this is hinting at product wise.

I think Nathan is right and its a tongue and cheek reference to not having a product reveal (Keynote) since Sept.

THIS.

Or a new iPod "Classic"

I believe the "It's been too long" is actually a joke, since they just had an event a month ago.

So … what had been way too long?

Event over.

What thing had been "way too long"?

Who here felt that they had waited way too long for that thing?

The mini was a disappointment to me as well.

The optimist in me is hoping that they just did a minor refresh to tide people over until their big redesign (ie: Mac Pro ashtray) that will be assembled in the same place as the Mac Pro starting sometime next year. Announcement at WWDC, shipping next fall/holiday season type thing.

The pessimist in me says that this is just a minor refresh to tide people over until they eventually phase it out for good.

Hindsight tells me now that "It's been way too long" was most likely in reference to Touch ID "finally" coming to the iPad's after a year of waiting with it being on the iPhone 5S. As somebody pointed out earlier, the top bit of the Apple logo with the leaf highly resembles a fingertip touching a surface. I think that person nailed it. (I'm too lazy to go back through the thread(s) to find out who it was.)

At any rate, I can't help but feel at least a little mislead after Tim Cook's statement earlier this year that they have the most exciting products in the last 25 years in their pipeline this year. I won't be paying that much attention to anything he says after this as a result.
