are youtube videos over cell networks still bad quality compared to wifi? or are they all high on 3GS?

3Gs loads pages really quick over wifi compared. Just done a comparing loading engadget and ebay. engadget loaded in about 8 seconds on the 3Gs and 18 on the 3G. Wifi loading on safari is something i was really interested in seeing compared.....
Are both iPhone's running OS 3.0? I guess so, but if not... then it is Safari 4 and not the iPhone.

p.s. Why don't you run http://speedtest.net/ a few times?

I want to see how fast Maps runs. I use that very much on my 3g.

How fast does it load? To locate you? To search for something (local wal-mart?) street view run good? (wait does it have street view?)

both were running and the 3G had just been restored to factory default. but i loaded each page on both phones before doing the test so they had the same cookies and cache.

location seems to be slightly quicker on the 3G. the blue dot goes in the middle when its a cell tower location though. which is kind of confusing. not sure if it does this on 3.0

maps seemed good. but compass is rubbish in a car.

its a lot faster. i promise you

After seeing the original post on this thread I drove over to ATT at 10AM here in Naperville IL. No lines, all phone models available, and I got it. Fortunately I have a family plan w/ 2 phones, and each of their renewals alternate each year. In other words, I can get the newest iphone every year at the best price.

Anyways, the performance increase, particularly the elimination of all the lags are well worth it.

Just what I thought – I ran the SunSpider JavaScript Benchmarks on my iPhone and that shows a whole lot improvements (just like Apple said during the WWDC).

That must be due to the Faraday cage, and maybe that is why Tom Tom is going to "enhance the GPS signal" with their new car kit – which also offers charging, playing in car audio and adding hands-free calling (thanks to the new 30 pin connector specs).

now there is the convincing i need ! any more trials you care to share?!

trust me....its VERY noticeable across the board...VEEERRY :) i am extremely please with the speeds.

how about loading apps ? is it faster there as well?

yes, yes, and YES!!! WOOOO!!

Macrumors for starters :)

mine loads in about 7-10 sec. on wifi it blows the 3g away...like 4.5 sec compared to 11-15 sec

Does SMS still lag hardcore?

not really....im sure it will with MMS in the NEAR future  i hope!

Matt - how long can you do video for? Was a question I saw asked elsewhere, but no-one knew. ALso - could you edit your 1st post to put all the info together? :) Helps make it easier to read - then others can add stats in the thread and update maybe?

one hour is the cap i believe....and good quality too!

How about panning and zooming around web pages? Is the lag of redrawing the display gone? Does it feel faster?
Considering my 1st gen Touch is already faster with webpages than every other smartphone phone (besides the iPhone of course) I've ever tried, the 3GS (and OS 3.0) should blow away every competitor save for the Pre perhaps.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (white): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

3G - 25 Seconds

3GS - 5 Seconds

Now thats astonishing.

I ran this on my 3G and I got 10 seconds.....

I got 13 seconds, wifi on a 100Mbps fiber connection. Still, 5 seconds is a big improvement!

Omg, it is fast! I play peggle a lot and it used to take like 10 seconds to load. Now it only takes 3. I'm so glad I decided not to be cheap and keep my 3G.

One of my favorite advantages of the phone having more processing power is Safari. New windows are loaded quickly and switching among them is super fast. Further, it never needs to reload them when you put them in the background! It's truly a joy to surf the web on.

Can anyone download the app CheckTubes and compare the 3G and 3GS download speed.

I originally thought my network was slow, it now seems it could be the iPhone 3G.

I'm in Australia by the way so no iPhone 3GS yet available for me to compare.

I continue to be astonished by the sheer speed of the 3G S over my 2G.
I also agree with those stating how enjoyable the web surfing experience is now...a joy to behold. Moving from one open browser to another is instantainious. The extra memory makes a huge difference as there is zero load time. The upgraded graphics card makes 3D games pop unlike anything I have seen on any phone...

This is the upgrade I had been waiting for...:D
