I'm pretty surprised... pretty much everything in PDP's list needs to be in a pro editor. I can almost hear Avid execs laughing maniacally in the distance.

I've told my main freelance client to stick with FCP7 for now so that I can continue grading in Color until I can move over to Resolve v8 sometime in the next few months.
Come on! release 8 already ;) Just got my MC Color and so far its aight with REDCineX.

what about plug-ins? Will Magic Bullet Looks for example still work with FCP X? Has anyone tried this out?

From the Red Room blog over at Red Giant Software:

"Apple has not yet contacted 3rd party plugin developers to let them know what the transition plan is for plugins in FCPX.

That’s really all we’ve got right now. We know as much as you do. We’re downloading the software ourselves for the very first time, and as soon as we’ve tested it out and have more info, we’ll give you an update."

I've got Noise Industries FX Factory Pro and was pleasantly surprised to see they've released an update to support FCP X.

Had Motion 5 crash on me five times already when just selecting some presets or so. Nice. But hey, it is a paid alpha I guess. Glad I don't have enough money swirling around to play with FCP X yet. I guess WMM will do.

I'm sick of the moaning and always-hilarious "iMovie Pro" snickering already, but I'm going to allow myself a few paragraphs of bitching.

Apple has handled this launch terribly.

If this is a public testing phase, then somehow communicate that to the users who are obviously going to be concerned by how juvenile it all looks. If it's not a public testing phase, then why is it missing so much important stuff? Why didn't you give pre-release copies to plugin developers? Why is Compressor still 32-bit? And while I'm griping, why will I seemingly have to install Snow Leopard if I want to do a fresh install of Lion? What a ****ing mess.

And that's basically what I'm saying: this is a big ****ing mess, and somebody's going to have to clean it up. If it's cleaned up quickly, I won't get mad.

This sounds way more like Final Cut Prosumer than Final Cut Pro. For me it's probably suitable, but for anyone who edits for a living this has got to be quite the slap in the face.

I honestly don't think that FCPX was shipped too early or anything like that. I think that this is basically the app that Apple wanted to ship. It's targeted to the more sophisticated consumers and/or lower end prosumers and more professional features will be added as they see fit. Ever since the "dv revolution" started (mid/late 90's) video production (and I use the term very broadly) has been on a path towards a new form of literacy, IMO, and Apple is aiming for that big, massive group of 'power consumer' users that is currently exploding. I recently read that YouTube receives 35hrs of content every minute!

I think Apple views higher end professional users an expendable, high maintenance niche. And from a purely business standpoint we are. There are a lot more consumers out there and they have much lower standards. If Apple wanted to target professionals things like XML support would've made it in and "Export to CNN iReporter" would've been shelved for a later update.

Really does look more like a consumer product rather than pro. Well it says it supports the upcoming TB enabled capture devices. So maybe there is still hope for in/out devices.
