This the dumbest product Apple has made in quite some time, why would I buy an accessory to a tag? That's just ridiculous. Tile beats Apple in design here.
Maybe. A lot of apple customers may prefer to express their individuality and there will be (already is!) an entire ecosystem of hodlers. People who are willing to pay $600 for a luggage tag aren’t going to find tile very attractive :)

It does not look "not appealing", it does look appalling.

I will get 4 of them. Just out of curiousity, because it is something I never used to use, because it did not exist that way yet. But certainly not drilling a hole into them. I will not soak them in water, but the drilled ones might loose some protection against mosture as well.

Or Apple could have just built a key ring hole into the product so you wouldn’t have to spend money on an accessory.

Maybe they should start including cases with all their notebook computers too so you don't have to spend money on accessories. Also every dongle you could possibly need should be included. I mean, following that logic. Would it be nice? Heck yeah! Would I be upset or irritated if they didn't? Nope. You go into the purchase knowing what you're getting. So if it's going to break the bank to buy some cheap third-party holders (if you even need a holder . . . depends on what you're using the AirTag for), then AirTags aren't for you. I also think they'd look uglier with a pre-drilled hole or a protrusion at the top to accommodate a hole, which is probably why they didn't do that (yeah, I know, "they only did it for extra profit" . . . I'm not quite that cynical . . . they could still sell holders for people who wanted it to look more elegant even if it had holes).

IMO people complain about the silliest things. It's almost as if it's fun or a game for some people to find something trivial to complain about with each new product (another example is the "chin," colors, or bezels on the new iMac).

Or -- provide partners/developers with opportunities to support the ecosystem and profit.

Good point. And I guarantee you even if these had some sort of hole/loop already on them, Apple would still make and sell tons of holders, so I don't really buy the "money-grabbing" argument (and lots of use cases wouldn't require an attachment method anyway).
