I'm the opposite. I've no problem paying the 'asking price' for good, well reviewed apps. My issue are the 'freebies' loaded with IAPs! Those to me are the apps to avoid
Some of the bigger apps and companies (EA is a good example) typically have holiday and different sales when new iOS devices are released. I got FIFA and Madden for $.99 on sale (from their $10 prices) and have learned to hold out for some of the sales-
That said, when it comes to productivity apps (Pages, Numbers, Bento, Et al)...I have no problems paying $10-$20. I use them often and they easily sync through my laptops, iPads and iPhone. IMHO it's a good thing to support these developers...even @ $10/each. These prices are ridiculously cheap compared to every other device I've ever purchased....from the Atari 2600 thru the latest XBox and PS3---the DS, 3DS, etc (we've got an 8 year old son)...that even the $10-$20 games seem like a relative bargain.
Those 'free' apps are the monsters! Get ya hooked and before you know it you've run up a C-Note in IAPs!

PS...I didn't respond to the poll either. Doesn't apply to me;)

I always find it funny that I'll spend hours reading reviews of .99 cent apps, but I'll spend that much in a vending machine without thinking twice. Those M&Ms will be gone in a few minutes...while that app will sit on my phone in perpetuity.

Lol, exactly!

I've typically not been impressed with the cheap apps and deleted them right away. Waste of money. I have other apps that I've used for hundreds of hours. I would gladly pay $20 for those instead.

This.
I gladly pay a few dollars (euros) for an good app. Better than a free or $0.99 app that I delete after a few days because it turns out to be rubbish.

I will always pay If the app is useful and I need it. For the games most of the famous games go free - " app of the week " :D

1 year later and I still feel exactly the same. Hate when apps are more than $0.99 lol.

Believe it or not, most of the good truly useful apps I've seen range from 2 to 3 bucks.

If it's a good app and one I'm going to really use it, what's wrong with paying an extra few bucks?

I'm guessing you don't have a Mac...

I don't believe in paying for apps. There is not a single app worth paying for that I can't live without and all the best apps are free anyway. I used to buy games before but thats just a massive waste of money. Those games that I bought are so horrible outdated now.

Its just a massive waste of money and I would never do it. What am I going to do with all those useless apps if I buy android or a windows phone for example?

True I find that some of the most useful apps are not available on Android or they are paid. IOS has good app selection with many good ones being free.

I laugh at myself everytime I notice that I do this. I don't balk at paying $10-15 for lunch but I'll put any app regardless of what it costs in my appshopper wish list at least for a little while waiting for a price drop.

For me it depends on the app. I generally don't mind spending less than $5. Anything over that, and it is usually a no go for me.

Why do people in this forum make such inane assumptions?

Well it's your insistence that you won't pay for an app that is more than 99 cents without explaining why, other than that you love $0.99 apps and can't bring yourself to pay more.

The argument other posters are presenting to you is that if there is a truly great app you would use, but it was $1.99, you wouldn't even consider purchasing it? Just kind of silly to limit yourself like that.

When I bought Keynote for $10 I did it in one smooth and decisive finger press.
For most other apps I wait for a sale:
example for games:
MVC2 $0.99, Contra 0.99, Woflenstein 3d 1.99, Doom 1.99, GTA Vice City 2.99
I loved those games when they came out and and having them in my pocket for that cheap was worth it.

My issue with paying for apps is the lack of a trial. As several previous posters pointed out, both free and paid apps of various prices can be hit or miss. Sometimes they're fantastic, sometime's they're a total waste of space, often somewhere in between.

In this respect, the wild fluctuations in quality, apps are unlike anything else we buy daily. If I got o Subway for lunch, I know it's going to be almost exactly like every other Subway in the country. I rely on the franchise and the brand to consistently deliver a predictibly mediocre sandwich; they never fail me. Alternatively, the random other non-franchise places at the food court for lunch will give our samples of their food. Some costs are a combined version of both: I will pay $200 for an Apple iPhone because I can try it at the store, and because I have trust in Apple's brand.

The App Store is still like the wild west of software sales. There are very very few brands that have instilled trust in me, and even those few brands seldom have the exact app I am looking for in the moment. There are absolutely no trails or samples, unless the developer has second a stripped-down version of the app; however this isn't truly a trial or sample.

The App Store is too unpredictable for me to risk the $5.

I cannot justify paying $1.99 for the most part! I could purchase $0.99 games all day but when I find one for only a dollar more I can't bring myself to it! :p Is anyone else like this?

to be honest, surely if u can afford an iphone, ull be able to afford 0.99 for an app, though yes, i see what u mean , it does stack up. i mean ive used iphone for about 3 years now and my total app collection has to be worth about 200USD

LOL Why did you feel the need to show receipts? I have a receipt for a Mac that I did not buy with my own money. Just sayin'.

Personally, I don't care if you sit around and milk your parents for everything they have. That's not the focus. The focus is you can't pay more than .99¢ for an app. There are some great apps out there that were $1.99. I think a couple bucks for the time a dev spent on an app is more than fair.

I never pay. I ask for iTunes cards on birthdays and Christmas and pay for apps that way. I barely spend the money on the cards anyway unless I know one of those two days are coming up lol.

I the oppisite as the OP. I would much rather pay for an app than to be hounded by IAP. Two examples are Real Racing and Plants vs. Zombies. They were rather expensive but I completely feel I got my monies worth. They were quality apps with a ton of replay value. I have paid for .99 apps and deleted after a couple of days. I'd much rather pay a fair price for a quality app. I hate this IAP path we have gone down but I know it's here to stay.

If it is an excellent app that I can foresee will help me, then price isn't an issue. I paid $40 for Navignon because before Apple maps, Google maps didn't do anything special for turn by turn.

If there's an app you need, you buy it. Even ones that go for $100 or so are worth it just due to the fact the walled garden Apple employs, ensures that your app is still useful after several generations of product. It's one of the reasons to "invest" in Apple's ecosystem. While there are sales and freebies every once in a while, it's just an added bonus. I've purchased some really expensive Android apps and those pretty much don't work well past Froyo. It was a waste because the Android ecosystem can turn on itself in the numerous iterations of the OS without backwards compatibility support. That's also why a lot of developers shun the OS.

PDFierro, I never said that. Jessica, The answer to that can be found in my previous posts and quotes in this thread. People make silly assumptions. No, it doesn't matter what people think of me but receipts are directly relative. And these are direct from Apple to my email.

My thing is not that I "refuse"; I have apps that cost more than $0.99. But what I'm saying is that, in general, I find it so easy to buy $1 apps. But when it comes to anything more I find myself researching the app, watching reviews, et cetera. I'll buy 3 $1 apps without thinking twice about it but a single $1.99 app changes my mindset for some reason. Further, I understand that my rationale is, well... irrational, that's why I wanted to discuss it here. I just think it's "funny" because I'm not the only who is like this. This thread is not that serious...
