I cannot justify paying $1.99 for the most part! I could purchase $0.99 games all day but when I find one for only a dollar more I can't bring myself to it! :p Is anyone else like this?

Same.

More than $0.99 and it's a no buy.

IMO developers should be kept in check, because they get greedy very easily, one comes out with a $2.99 app, for no reason at all, then the other thinks "Hmm... I'll charge $4.99", soon apps cost $20, people don't buy them and pirate them instead and it's again piracy's fault.

Keep your apps at $0.99 and I'll buy them.

Please, Palm apps used to cost in the upper $30 range. Let's not make people think that software is something that shouldn't be paid for.

And who bought them? Palm is on the bottom of the ocean.

Many people back in the days before the iPhone.

"The software was awful, it crashed all the time, you couldn't receive calls b/c the software would crash, none of the apps worked well, and the internet was completely unusable. It was a total nightmare."

The first thing I came across when Googling "Palm apps before iPhone".

But let's not deviate from the topic.

I wonder how they feel now, having sank multiple $30s on a dead platform.

You're able to say the same thing about any purchase/investment. It doesn't mean that developers and sellers don't deserve to be paid for what their hard work.

There seems to be a theme here of reluctance to pay more than a dollar for an app because the quality is usually poor.

I think you've got cause and effect the wrong way round there.

If you've ever tried creating a quality app you'll appreciate the time that goes into good design, usability and functionality.

When iTunes has the occasional free giveaway, just look at the fury and vitriol in the reviews section from people who paid 99 cents for that app a year ago, shouting in capital letters with an illogical number of exclamation marks that they have been TOTALLY RIPPED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

You get what you pay for. If you're not willing to pay a fair price, quality will suffer, and developers will seek to recoup costs through advertising and IAP.

It's your call.

I am not suggesting that they don't deserve to be compensated for their work.

It's all about seller-buyer and what each is willing to compromise.

If I spent multiple $30 on apps and that platform went belly up, I would not be happy. However if I bought 99c apps, I would not have that big of a problem with it.

In my opinion the big problem comes because one cannot try the app before buying. I wouldn't mind shelling 3 dollars for an app if I knew it would be nice and useful/entertaining.

Shelling a dollar is almost no risk, so it's ok

The price of an app is irrelevant. I've owned an iPad since day 1, I'm used to higher app prices! :p

It's so easy to buy $0.99 apps but...

If its a good app and I can't find anything else that's better and also cheaper/free then I bite. I've bought a couple of apps worth 1.99-3.99 already. It's a few bucks, I don't really sweat it even if I make a regrettable purchase later on haha. I also agree that some apps should have a demo of some sort so I can test before buying.

This.

My largest reason for not purchasing an app is not that it is $0.99 vs $1.99. My worry is that I will buy it and find out I don't like it for one reason or another and I end up deleting it off my phone after a day or so. Sure, I can look up reviews (and I do) but they can only tell you so much. Also, sometimes there is just not enough information out there to make a decision off reviews.

This hasn't completely stopped me from purchasing apps, however. I probably have bought at least a couple dozen apps over the last couple years. I can guarantee you that I would have purchased many more apps if there was some trial period before purchasing though.

I've bought a LOT of apps over the years.

If its a game from a company I know which does 99c sales all the time, I simply put it on my wishlist and wait.

If its an app which will help me in some way and there are no alternatives, I usually end up buying it at whatever price it is at.

Sometimes, I shop around for similar apps and might wait for the developer to drop the price, but that is rare.

Games, almost always better to wait unless its a sequel to a game you love, then its an instant buy.
