I agree with you on iMacs, but I can't see how the Mac Pro isn't overpriced.

The Mac Pro is not over priced and here is why. Back in the fall of 06 I bought my Mac Pro, I dropped a pretty penny on it for sure. I think I ended up paying $3,500. It is 3 years later. Although there are new Mac Pros, ones that can have 8 cores vs my 4, etc. However the differences are not enough to cause me to need a new computer, more over the computer still has more then enough power. I do some serious sessions in Logic Pro, but still don't think I'll have to worry about replacing the Mac Pro for another couple of years possibly.

So I have already gotten 3 years out of it, my Apple care is now gone, no problem and I totally expect to get another 2 years at least out of it.

When you look at it that is only $700 a year, not bad. Chances are one would replace their iMac or their laptop a few times within that period. I have gone through 3 laptops since I've had the Mac Pro.

When people say the Mac Pro is overpriced they usually mean something along the lines of one of the following:

"I can get a headless desktop for under US$1,000 that is perfect for my needs, the Mac Pro is too much just to be able to run OS X"

"I can get the same performing hardware as the quad core Mac Pro for half the price as components or from another company"

"The cost of the components found in an 8 core Mac Pro are over $1,000 less than Apple charge".

When you bought your Mac Pro they had competitivly priced hardware and there wasn't quad core on the desktop until November 2006. As we progress to 2009 Apple's prices move from being well priced in the workstation market to poorly priced.
