Here's a question. Do video purchases count?

No, they don't.

You will automatically be entered into the Promotion by: 1) downloading a song from iTunes (any music video or other video downloads and any free downloads will be deemed an ineligible entry); or 2) a free alternative means of entry by completing an online entry form available at http://www.apple.com/itunes/1billion/entryform/ (a song download or free online entry will be deemed an “Entry(ies)”).

Another iTunes milestone! :D One billion songs is a huge deal... go, iTunes!

As for the prize... wow! 10 60GB iPods could get you a lot of money. I'll be trying for the iMac, though. :D

Good luck, everyone!

The countdown site says they will award prizes every 100,000th download starting at 950,100,000. It's currently at about 950,894,500.

So did iTunes sell nearly 800,000 songs in the past 2 hours, did Apple announce the contest late, or were we just late in finding out about the contest (the info was posted here about 2 hours ago)?

In any case, good luck to everyone, and may someone on MacRumors get the grand prize!! :)

I wonder how real-time it is...

Makes getting that grand prize a little easier...maybe.
I doubt they are real-time, they probably did a approximate rate of increment and then put it in the site, probably making it slightly lower so that they can have a buffer.

EDIT: looking at the source, it's an xml retrieval of the increment rate, a new rate is being retrieve every one minute.

Don't have to Buy Songs...

Apple.jpg

http://www.apple.com/itunes/1billion/

Has anyone seen that you don't have to buy to go in the draw for the "chance every 100,000 iPod nano"

You can click on the link at the bottom of the page and fill in a form.

It has a limit of 25 per day.

Just thought id let ya's know!

nice.

thank you AutoFill.

(on a side note, they are required by law to allow a method of entry without purchase. companies with a physical product often find ways around this, for example, Coke and Pepsi have codes printed under bottle caps or labels that you need to use to enter.)

haven't downloaded a single song off the net before, but i just might start.

something about holding the actual CD in my hands just can't be replaced, even though the first thing i do is rip it onto my computer and store the disc...

Yeah, thats a bit disappointing. I would have preferred it was a requirement and included video

Even though I am an iTMS regular, I just know I have no chance of winning. I am one of those who seems to have no luck in draws or contests or the like :(

I envy whoever it is who gets the 1,000,000,000th song

The scrolling albums thing is pretty cool (mouse over them). The scholarship idea is even cooler. Something for you, something to help lots of people.

A $10,000 GIFT CARD?

Assume 1 minute (extreme optimism) for you to think of, locate, and download each song.
Assume 5 minutes for you to think of, locate, and download each album.
Assume 3/4 of the credit you spend is on albums.
Assume 12 songs at $10 per average album.
Assume 4 minutes average song length.
Assume you then listen to the songs for 8 hours every day.

That's 11,500 songs: 9000 songs on 750 albums, plus 2500 singles.

You will spend 104 hours finding and downloading them.

And then it will take you 96 days to hear them all.

(I wonder how much that used-up card will be worth on eBay? Should be quite a collector's item!)

Neat.

Now I have a reason to use my iTunes codes.

I could use a new iMac and iPod, but I'll settle for an iPod nano too. :D

I'm still working on a $15 gift card I got for Christmas... a $10,000 one last me my whole life and maybe even my future son or daughter's. lol

10 iPods?!?!? Holy crap. You could make a lot of money off of that selling them to people.

You also have to pay a lot of money on income taxes. I'd donate them to a charitable organization to offset the taxes for the other prizes.

i am singin' the same praises you are to Autofill :) !

Too bad there is no iTMS in Venezuela :(

I can't even enter the iPod nano contest because my country is out of the elegible list.

Oh, well... back to reality.
