Still this argument which is not true. Even if the movie is gone from the apple store it will still be in your purchases history and available for play via streaming.
Same for music. I have at least 10 albums that are I incomplete and not available anymore in the iTunes Store but I still have them to stream or download. Let's put this rumour to rest please.

Nope. I bought Coldplay 2012 from the iTunes Store in 2012. It was subsequently removed from the iTunes Store and it disappeared from my purchased movies list. Fortunately, I had downloaded a copy. It was recently added back to the iTunes Store, but Apple tells me that I must re-purchase the movie in order to watch it (via streaming on the Apple TV or iOS device).

Specifically, Apple sated that "it appears that the movie probably got modified. When an item is modified in the iTunes store, or removed entirely, we no longer have access to the original one that you ordered. If you wish to watch this again, you will need to purchase it."

Question for anyone using the new system - can you download a movie and its associated iTunes Extra's, disconnect the internet and watch the movie and the new iTunes Extra's solely from your Mac on your Gen2/3 AppleTV?

Last night I purchased Les Miserables and downloaded it to my iTunes library. There was no option to download the Extras separately. I then disconnected from the internet and pressed play. The Extras were offline.

Thank you for the answer.

Anybody know if they can get that choice on a Gen2/3 Apple TV from local Mac/PC (with internet disconnected) - after you're sure you can play it locally on the Mac/PC first? Or do you only get the choice to play the movie on the AppleTV?

Finally

This feature should have been available a long time ago.....
It's good it is finally here! I am running a MAC MINI with my old G5 Cinema Display. Because of the age of the monitor, it will not play and protect content! Now I can finally watch 'Extra' on my TV as it was supposed to be! Yahoo!

I don't know why that is, I remember there was something similar with some Disney movies but they eventually came back to those who purchased them. This is defiantly not the norm and it never happened to me. Also if they change the movie than you should still get the newer version for free. I once got a message that some TV episodes I had we're updated due to audio/video issues and that was all free. If it wasn't for the email I got I would have never noticed.

OK, you asked for the sidebar with artists. I showed you the sidebar with artists. :)

The only difference is iTunes 11 puts artwork in the list, and the song titles on the right in two columns, which actually saves vertical space, but it uses more horizontal space. The art in the artist list doesn't bother me.

I didn't like that at first, but I have other things to do, and iTunes plays music and updates my iPod and iPhone as it should. It's not worth getting upset over. I'm not going to call that "garbage" because they changed the format slightly.

It's just frustrating when they ruin it. I listen to a lot of music while studying and just preferred the old setup that worked, which is why I IMMEDIATELY reverted to iTunes 10.7 on my PC when I got my mac.

EDIT: On Itunes 11 I am forced into this crappy top bar that only shows 4 artists at time...

How hard what it be for them to allow a left bar in this layout again?

This fixed the album view by artist "jump" bug that was driving me nuts.

When you press a key, it's supposed to jump to the first artist starting with that letter, this was hosed in the last version, it's fixed now.

Thanks. I didn't even know the feature existed. I found you can also type an artist name (assuming you don't stop too long between letters) and it will jump straight to that artist.

The art in the artist list doesn't bother me.

I don't like that it's missing all the other columns that song list shows. OTOH, I already know what artists are in my library. I have zero need for the artist column regardless (column browser may have a shorter list without art, but if all one is doing is scrolling to find an artist, I don't see why it's a big deal to turn it on with a big view and then just turn it off again when you're done). One could even make a playlist with all music and no art and easily scroll through any organizational pattern one desires. There's also the above mentioned type to jump to artist name and the Spotlight-esque search box.

I do despise the loss of Cover Flow for movie lists, though. There is no good view to see reasonable size cover art yet maintain easily-to-view large lists of movies. The icon list still SUCKS (it won't scroll quickly and there's no way I can see to change the size of the icons displayed so it's way too tedious to find a movie that way yet with lists you either have to choose between a tiny thumbnail of artwork (that makes the lists waste space) or none at all. Cover Flow solved all that by scrolling to the art as you clicked on the movie name from a list. OS X and iOS still have a cover flow mode so WTF doesn't iTunes? I honestly believe we need to organize feedback campaigns to demand certain features. There is simply no reason why iTunes couldn't have better options for everyone to organize the way they want.

I agree, but you do know that you can move the pane downward so you can see more artists, right? Just make it cover 80% of the screen or something and then turn it on when you need it rather than be there all the time (which wastes space, IMO since I normally know what artists I have in my collection and if I'm just looking for something to listen to, I can access artist, album and genre all at once that way and then make it disappear again when I've found something.

People need to organize feedback. I've found a long time ago Apple will not pay ANY attention to a single user request. They have to be inundated with the same request to get any traction. The problem is people are LAZY and don't want to fill out a feedback form if it only bothers them a little bit.

I'm disappointed by the implementation of this on Apple TV.

If you go into 'Computers' to see the movies that you can stream to your ATV that are stored locally on your computer, there is no option there to view the Extras associated with that movie.

To view the Extras, you must go in via the 'Movies' app and the 'purchased' tab. Which means that the content and the movie itself will then be streaming to you from the Cloud, even though you have the movie on your local network.

I wonder what the technical problem is that they can't (or won't?) make it behave the same way a Generation 1 AppleTV views it (i.e. the extra shows up right next to the movie in the list and it CAN load locally). But then I'm not crazy about the way they've separated your own content from the "Movies". They might as well just call that column "STORE" since that is what it is.

I'm having an issue now where certain songs are skipping on the last minute (iTunes skips to the next song before its done playing). Added to the fact that I can no longer have my iPod auto-sync while sorting by Album Artist, I never had either problem with iTunes 10.

do we have to see this every time i play the video?
is there any setting to set play from beginning by default?

On my Apple TV when I go to Movies...Purchased and select a movie it takes me to the start screen that has Play Movie, iTunes Extras, etc. When I go to Computers...My Computer...Movies and select a movie it just starts playing. i.e., iTunes extras is not available. Is this the same for everyone?

It should do all it does right now, but they should do a rewrite. It became way too slow for an app this important and frequently used.

I can get away from iTunes pretty much. It's not as important software as it used to be anymore. I have AppleTV and use only Beamer with my movies collection neatly stored in 10TB hard disks. I have Spotify for streaming music (for now) and all my iDevices is sync through cloud, no iTunes required. The only thing I still use iTunes for are managing and playing my music collections, which is rare with streaming these days.

This isn't working for me at all. None of the movies with itunes extras I have show up as such in my Apple TV.

Should I contact Apple?

Anyone else having this problem?

Prometheus, The Dark Knight (which is strange, because on the page in the store it shows up as unpurchased, when it IS in my "purchased" section, without itunes Extras of course!), Jurassic Park, Aliens.. etc..

I think this is the normal behavior at this point...
