Omg omg omgggggg I've been begging for this forever! I have over 100 movies on iTunes and have never watched special features because I would have to open up my laptop to do it. Now I get to spend my days off watching special features on a lot of movies! Goodbye girlfriend and family! Helloooo appletv

I think you are heading for disaster!

On my Mavericks iMac it showed up in Software Update and installed fine, but on my Mountain Lion MacBook it doesn't show up in Software Update. If I start iTunes and have it check for updates it says there is one and takes me to Software Update where it still doesn't show up. Rebooted. Same thing. Any ideas?

It works now at last

I think you are heading for disaster!

I've needed to upgrade my girlfriend for awhile anyway.

Finally, good to see iTunes Extras on the Apple TV.

Though wondering HOW iTunes Extras will work on iOS...will it be yet another Apple App or within Videos or somewhere.

I would assume it'll work the day as it just did on my Apple TV. Simply play the movie and it will give you the option to either play movie or go to special features. I like this!

----------

The lack of Apple TV 2/3 support was the only thing keeping me from switching away from Bluray. Certainly not yawning here.

I switched from blu ray more than a year ago and have already wracked up 100 movies. Damn iTunes and their 9.99 sales!

----------

How is it that iTunes Extras for the ATV is only getting addressed now? The one advantage to buying a movie from iTunes instead of Amazon Prime, and they back-burner this for years? Did it really take getting spanked by Roku sales to make this happen?

Did you see that article yesterday about appletv selling less than chrome cast and roku? I bet that had something to do with it. Looks like apple wants to start taking this little box seriously

This is all well and good, until they pull a purchased movie from the iTunes Store, which happens on occasion. You may have your downloaded copy of the movie on the computer, but the iTunes Extras will be gone because they are now apparently streamed and not stored locally.

I got this..

Now sure if because it's something to do with 10.10 public beta almost here or what, since i'm havan't a developer account.

Anyone else getting this ?

I meant a left-hand sidebar for displaying artists on the lefthand side, like itunes 10.7

Itunes 11 only lets you have it on top, which is stupid AF
There's a left side sidebar that can easily be enabled.

I saved myself 2 hours of re-install via internet recovery and testing via a second user account, just to see the safari 7.1 issue is not appearing anymore.

obviously a fix on Apple's end solved this... Thank allot Apple for trying to make me waste my time :p

I could of got a Safari developer version :p dang...

after the update itunes lags when scrolling , takes a few seconds for movie posters to load
before it was smooth

anybody else?

Exactly. This is what people who seem indifferent to this don't get. I'd like commentary tracks too. :p

iTunes Extras: I hope this means that iTunes will now offer all of the extras available on blu rays going forward. Digital pricing is very close to blu ray and dvd prices as it is.

I still buy both, but if the extras are lackluster, I stick with the digital release.

Pretty Good But Still Half Baked

On the content that i have where it works - I think it's pretty slick and nice. The problem is not all the HD Films with iTunes Extras seem to work mostly those that required a separate download like Escape Plan and Ender's Game. It doesn't work with the SD Extras either. Seems designed to try and sucker morons like me into rebuying crap just to get the full experience.

It also annoys the crap out of my that 70 percent of my library is in SD because they came from those dumb digital copy disks and there's no way to upgrade to the HD version without paying the full premium HD price which is CRAP. This goes for UV as well. I own the ***** SD Copy, yet they want to force me to buy the entire thing again?

This is why I'm moving away from iTunes, I'm building my own digital library, it's a long, slow, tedious process but at the end of it, it'll be awesome having everything in a uniformed format on a couple of hard drives running from either a Mac Mini or Roku.

I will say, this does make want me to buy more digital copies, but I guess I'll just wait until Vudu/UV gets their act together - since I have 700 movies on that service in beautiful HDX.

Every time they do an update it messes up my library. Changes are reversed, etc. Can't they figure out a way of updating the software without doing this.

Boo.

Prometheus here in the UK has iTunes Extras but no logo in the store. And checking on my 3rd gen Apple TV no iTunes Extra content shows up.

Half baked indeed. Gives me less hope for iTunes LP content on the iPad now.

Apple describe them as 'new iTunes Extras'. It may be the case that when the Extras for Prometheus get updated you'll be able to see them on Apple TV. It may require studio participation.

I have never seen Apple release an update this early.

This isn't really an update exactly. The feature was in 6.2 but just needed to ge turned on.

So, if I'm understanding how this is working correctly, it scans your library .

If my scans your library you mean 'goes through your purchase list' then yes. This isn't matching stuff you might have loaded into your iTunes from other sources in a Match type style.

And it's likely that you can stream or download the files just like you can with the feature film. But since the Apple TV right now is only 8 GB requiring you to download doesn't really work.

----------

Same here. I actually liked them with the original ATV. It was a nice bridge between the DVD and iTunes experience. Been waiting a while for them to re-add this support. Hope they do it for TV seasons, too.

I agree about the TV shows although first the producers have to make stuff and they rarely do. Or they make possible stuff but send it out as podcasts or just post it on Facebook etc. Or they do it like Breaking Bad did where those that bought during the seasons were screwed cause to get the deluxe features you have to buy the episodes again. They need a way to 'complete my season' in cases like that

----------

Please focus on Music more. Need better tagging options to manage music collection.

Agreed. The whole catalog needs work. But this is a good sign they aren't standing still on iTunes so perhaps something is coming soon.

----------

Exactly. I loved all the extras that came with DVDs and Blu Ray.

Would love commentary tracks. Always feels like I'm getting slightly ripped off with digital downloads.

90 % of my film school education came from those commentaries etc.

I would also like to see language tracks, subtitles etc improved. I should not have to buy Toy Story three times to have the option for English, Spanish, visual descriptive track.

OK, now I see what you mean, and no, you can still have it on the left:

This is how I used it in iTunes 10.

Just set iTunes to "Artists" view. I was able to get iTunes 11 to look 99% like iTunes 10.

NO, this is garbage. Can't see any info and so much wasted space. This is my itunes 10 on windows. Beautiful.

See how the songs in one solid line and the artist sidebar is pure text? Itunes 11 wastes so much space and looks terrible on the artist page.

iTunes 11 is so close to this, except they refuse to allow a leftside bar in the "songs" view, which is pretty much an exact replica of my iTunes 10 setup.

Still this argument which is not true. Even if the movie is gone from the apple store it will still be in your purchases history and available for play via streaming.
Same for music. I have at least 10 albums that are I incomplete and not available anymore in the iTunes Store but I still have them to stream or download. Let's put this rumour to rest please.

SD copies that you get from BD really doesn't make sense. But Apple, Google, Amazon have no say in that. I thought about building my own library, but its annoying and I have to spend time loading it onto a drive to take with me on the road. Its just easier for me to stream it on the road via my MiFi.

As for Vudu/UV getting their act together..... ROFLOL

This fixed the album view by artist "jump" bug that was driving me nuts.

When you press a key, it's supposed to jump to the first artist starting with that letter, this was hosed in the last version, it's fixed now.

OK, you asked for the sidebar with artists. I showed you the sidebar with artists. :)

The only difference is iTunes 11 puts artwork in the list, and the song titles on the right in two columns, which actually saves vertical space, but it uses more horizontal space. The art in the artist list doesn't bother me.

I didn't like that at first, but I have other things to do, and iTunes plays music and updates my iPod and iPhone as it should. It's not worth getting upset over. I'm not going to call that "garbage" because they changed the format slightly.

Wonder if this was a licensing issue all along

I wonder if this was a licensing issue (from the movie folks to Apple) all along - as in the movie studio's not allowing the extra's to be streamed (to the Gen2/3 TV).

I'm also saying that from the standpoint of the iTunes Extras now being taken away from the standard definition versions of the movies (the only ones that play on alot of computers now)...which sounds totally movie studios and licensing (and Apple not wanting to go down that path).

Question for anyone using the new system - can you download a movie and its associated iTunes Extra's, disconnect the internet and watch the movie and the new iTunes Extra's solely from your Mac on your Gen2/3 AppleTV?

I'm disappointed by the implementation of this on Apple TV.

If you go into 'Computers' to see the movies that you can stream to your ATV that are stored locally on your computer, there is no option there to view the Extras associated with that movie.

To view the Extras, you must go in via the 'Movies' app and the 'purchased' tab. Which means that the content and the movie itself will then be streaming to you from the Cloud, even though you have the movie on your local network.

I would love to let my kids see the Frozen extras but kids watch movies over and over and I do not want them using my data allocation every time they end up choosing to watch the movie from the Extras menu.

I wish Apple had made it so that the Extras menu can still be launched via the 'Computers' app and had made it so that the Extras content was streamed from the cloud but the movie itself was streamed from the local source.
