Don't you know, they got fired when Scott Forstall was let go. Chief Jony took over.
I don't like the color hijacking, either, and fortunately, there is a way to opt out: iTunes Menu > Preferences > General: Uncheck "Use custom colors for open albums, movies, etc." in the Views section.
iTunes has its own software & UI teams.Don't you know, they got fired when Scott Forstall was let go. Chief Jony took over.
It does TOO MANY jobs.
Sure it's better to mix data and controls and make them look the same.No thanks. Depth is UIs belongs in the early 2000's. Can't believe it took so long to die off in the first place.
I practically gave up on iBooks: I think I've never encountered such a slow and crash prone application from Apple. I just have to use it sometimes, when an iOS update seemingly randomly deletes books and PDF that I must restore from my Mac.I guess this basically confirms iTunes won't be split up. What a bummer.
iBooks is such a great app, why can't they do that with Music, Videos, and Podcasts?
It's been replaced by a single overworked teenage girl mainlining espresso and molly, skitching out under a thousand flourescent lights. What has happened to Apple's UI team : (
iTunes UI has been a crumbling disaster LOOOONG before Scott was let go.
Guys, quit acting like the poor UI design decisions happened the moment Scott was fired. Apples UI had been slowly getting worse in some regards for a long time, while both Scott and Steve were there. iTunes didn't instantly become a mess. They were ruining the sidebar while Steve was around, removing the color from it, hiding it by default, etc.
Some of you guys really have a poor recollection of history. Apples UI design team had been getting incredibly stagnant, predictable, and downright uninspiring towards the end of Scott's tenure. Say what you will about the current design language introduced by Alan Dyes team, love or hate, but it was the most excitement and vision the Human interface team had delivered for years, arguably since 2007 with the introduction of iOS. After that they stood still, made some really questionable and downright poor design decisions.
Just feel the need to clear that up, as someone who's been following this stuff since the late 90s. While Apples HI team has done brilliant work, they have never been perfect.
Suuuure hope they're not getting rid of the Column Browser. It's the only way I browse my library.
...A persistent sidebar located on the left side of the app is being added, which will make it easier to access different portions of an iTunes Library like specific songs or albums....
100% right. Not just the UI but iTunes seems to be a resource hog. Have you tried iTunes on an older PC?Refinement ?
It was refined prior to iTunes 10, then bloatware & blandness (flat design) took over.
Now it needs separation between Store, Streaming & CMS. A bit like on iOS, where you have a separate iTunes store & music app, but more decluttering is needed on the OS X iTunes.
"Burn CD" lol... Can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss the brushed aluminum look.Hopefully this will make iTunes be able to maintain its scroll position once again. Currently it has the annoying habit of scrolling back to the top every damn time you edit metadata or modify a playlist in edit mode. Speaking of which – how about letting us open playlists in a separate window again? That was kind of useful. And already implemented.
I can't believe this works in iTunes 1 but not in iTunes 12:

Am I dreaming? Has Jony been sent to retirment?iTunes finally getting back the persistent sidebar? So maybe only some more waiting (2 or 3 version) and I can finally switch from iTunes 10.7…

So basically they've make us now do two clicks to swap between categories. Unless the category you want to go to is next to the one you're on then, then one click of the arrow will change it.
Why not go back to the way it worked best by putting the categories in a list back in the sidebar? The sidebar has so much wasted real estate to begin with.
I'll be skipping this update until the people designing this learn how to design a proper UI.
Is it me or does the UI look pretty much exactly the same as it did before??? Never really had a problem navigating iTunes so whatever.

I thought the sidebar was always there, just hidden by default?
