I’m still using iTunes 12.6.5.3 (I know...) on High Sierra and just wanted to check if I’ll still be able to sync music / content with my iPhone SE (2016) if I update to iOS 14. Thanks!

iTunes 12.6.5 + iOS 14 compatibility?

I am using that version of iTunes but on Windows (7 and 10). Been using it to download music and apps to iPads and iPhones all the way through the iOS 14 lifecycle.

Also used it to download some music to an old SE running iOS 15 beta 1. Apps also downloaded and worked okay except that the app icon was not displayed. But some downloads from the App Store were having that problem too. Not tried it with a later beta.
Worth mentioning that my devices are iPhones X, 6s+ and original SE. iPads are Pro 10.5 and third generation Pro 11.9.

Do you know if iTunes 12.6.5.3 can sync with iPhone SE 2020?
I was using it for a long time and liked the ability to download apps on PC and the sync to iPhone. As far as remember, it stopped syncing with iOS 13.

Has there been a definitive conclusion on what are the newest/last devices supported by iTunes 12.6.5 when running iOS 14?
My understanding is that on Windows all devices including the newest M1 iPad Pro on iOS 14 can work with iTunes 12.6.5 assuming the AppleMobileDeviceSupport driver is extracted and installed from the latest version of iTunes.
On Mac however, my understanding is that using the latest MobileDeviceOnDemand.pkg update only allows iTunes 12.6.5 to support iOS 14 on all the devices that iTunes 12.6.5 supported when it was originally released in fall 2018 which means up to iPhone XS and the iPad Pro 2018. Are any newer devices supported by iTunes 12.6.5 on Mac?

I’ll answer myself for anyone who comes searching: on windows, on an iPad mini 6 running iOS 15.1, no problem connecting to 12.6.5.3
Back when iOS 14.8 and iOS 15 were both being signed, I briefly upgraded an iPhone 7 to iOS 15 and connected it to a Mac running MacOS Sierra and iTunes 12.6.5. After accepting the MobileDevice update when prompted, iTunes 12.6.5 recognized the iOS 15 device. Backing up seemed to work, although the device had just been wiped and was otherwise empty, so it might not a robust test. I downgraded back to iOS 14.8 before the signing window closed and didn't run more extensive tests, but on the surface for Macs, it's likely that if a device worked with iTunes 12.6.5 on iOS 14, it'll also work on iOS 15.
