I'll start downloading movies when apple starts upping the resolution and quality. I know transfer rates would be sllooowww but seriously....who wants to watch movies in a quicktime window? Ipod+movies on the go = sweet but otherwise...no thank you.

I don't know about you, but the movie I downloaded was excellent quality! Very near DVD, I would say. It definitely lives up to what Apple says.

The only complaint I have with this otherwise wonderful release is that I cannot get iTunes 7 to allow me to resume paused downloads. My downloads also get interrupted all of the time for some reason and I can't resume them. It's kind of frustrating... esp. when you're a 1 MB and half from being done...!

Its a really good update, however it still hasn't got rid of that annoying popping sound that I get when I import CD's into it. Always happens towards the end of the CD and I've yet to find a way to get rid of it. I know its not the CD as they import fine on my iBook G4, its on my iMac G5 that it happens! (Sob, wish I'd waited for an Intel one- oh, never thought I'd say that!):)

-iTunes will give you cover art for free if you are missing cover art (thanks Steve).

How do I update all my songs with the "free" cover art? Some of my albums aren't showing the album art.

Click on "Get Album Art" / "Get Album Cover" or something like that in the third menu from the right.

Or select some tracks and right-click on them, then "Get Album Art" / "Get Album Cover".

Of course, there will still be a lot of covers missing. iTunes doesn't find everything, even if the tracks are available in the iTMS.

Please Post Model, Speed & Ram When Commenting On Speed Problems

It's been happening with every CD I've tried to import since upgrading. There are quite a few experiencing the same thing, as I checked the Apple iTunes discussion forum.

The last CD I imported took an hour and a half!
You guys need to post what Mac and speed with how much ram when you post about speed problems. Readers have no frame of reference when you post importing is slow without telling us what Mac you are using. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

all well and good...

except...

some of the album art that iT7 has downloaded has absolutely no relationship to either the album, song or artist. and, much of my collection is apparently obscure enough that only about 20% shows an album cover.

Also, you can select all tracks in your library and then select "get album art" (under advanced category). Though, it takes a bit of time.

as a music player i'm not overly impressed. i'm using a blue and white powermac with a 350 mhz ppc750 chip. itunes uses nearly 40% of the cpu time. what the hell is itunes actually doing???

by comparison, playing music with xmms, the total cpu percentage used is about 10% (6.5% for xmms, 3.5% for esd).

I've never even heard of xmms and I can't find it with Google nor with the Wikipedia. Kind of rude of you not to provide a link to where an OS X version resides don't you think? Your model Mac is getting pretty long in the tooth don't you think jhu?

you didn't search very hard as the first google listing points here. it runs on unix-like oses so there isn't a specific os x version. as for my computer, it works just fine so why buy something that i don't need?

the easiest way is to download and install either fink or darwinports and then install xmms via their respective package management system.

ipod as HD - ?

Two possible related issues...

On both my mini and 5G I keep getting a "cannot update ipod, file is in use" dialog box. But the software window says the ipods are up to date, so I'm not sure what's going on.

speaking of the new ipod settings window - back in the old days there was some setting "I want to mount my ipod as a disk as well" so you can drag not files, database, etc -use part of the ipod as a portable HD. Does this happen automatically now? I don't see any setting to turn this on or off....

thanks gang

When your iPod is mounted, if you click on in in iTunes, you will get a summary page for your iPod. That's where you'll find the checkbox to enable disk use.

D'oh!

Trouble is on the mini it is not un-selectable... (on th G5 it is)

did find the 'cannot update' problem on the apple forums as well, so I'm not the only one. :)

Is there a guide to uninstalling iTunes 7 and going back to iTunes 6? I don't like 7. It does not run as well as 6 on my Dual 2 G5. I like the browse button and the cool spin when you burn a disc on 6 and it is more "just music" for me. Less clutter and looks better to me. I don't need the album art. I would rather buy DVDs than download these movies. I tried one and it was okay but not what I need it for.

Just know you cannot buy anything if you have less than ITS 7

Really? We'll, I would rather have 6 to review my music recordings. I can always buy from my other Mac. Anyone know how to roll-back to 6? Thanks:)

You'll need 7 to purchase (and view) the video related stuff, but you can still spend your entire bank account buying songs from iTunes. That works just fine in iT6.

According to this thread over at the Apple discussion boards, here is the proper way to revert to iT6:

• Trash iTunes 7
• Delete the 'iTunesX.pkg' file from ./Library/Receipts
• Run the iTunes6 installer. It should install without any problem. Older versions (iTunes 6.0.5 not yet) are available here.
• Trash the 'iTunes Library' file in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes
• Create a copy of the 'iTunes Library 2006-09-12' (or a date near this one) in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries and rename it to 'iTunes Library'
• Put this file at ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes.
• Run iTunes 6. It should recognize the library without any problem. Any changes you made during the time you used iTunes 7 are lost of course.
