im loving that my external hd takes much less time to be added into itunes when i unplug my macbook pro

I don't know if anyone noticed it but I had another computer witch my sister crashed (NOT A MAC). She messed up Windows XP, so I had to reinstall Windows XP for her. I finished it two days ago, and I also installed iTunes two days ago. Having just been announced of releasing 8.1 today, I went to her computer and look at what version it was. It was the new 8.1 version. The download link showed that 8.1 was coming soon, yet I downloaded 8.1 two days before it was publicly announced. I got the 8.1 version today for my Mac yet I am still at a lost of how I got iTunes 8.1 early. Did anyone noticed if they got 8.1 early?

So is iTunes DJ the old shuffle feature re-named or does it add something new???

For the most part it's just Party Shuffle with a different name. However, one new feature of it is, if you have an iPod touch or iPhone with the 'Remote' app installed, you can now request songs (for example, if you're using the computer as a stereo at a party, people can browse the song list on the iPod/iPhone and then request it to play after the current track).

It's a shame you can't autofill videos too. My 80gb iPod has about 28gb of music, 5gb of photos and I'd like the rest to be autofilled with random videos from my TV show collection.

Guess I'll wait for Apple to add that for 8.2.

I'm a bit late to the party; I decided to wait a day or so before upgrading so that I could avoid all the initial Apple download server traffic.

That said, iTunes is nearly instantaneous. Before, the iTunes icon would bounce at least 4 times, then I'd have to wait about 6 seconds before the library appeared. Now, it's down to 2 bounces and one second, and that's with over 7000 entries/47 Gb in music alone.

CoverFlow album art renders way faster during scrolling too.

If I were a gambling man, I'd wager that the iTunes dev team just earned a nice pay bonus. (The jury's still out on the new shuffle, though...)

Finding there is a major lag with iTunes cover flow view and two-fingered scroll. Once I start scrolling and stop it takes a few swipes to start moving again. And trying to do a slow incremental scroll is complete fail.

Good update, but I have also noticed this as well. It is actually very unpredictable behaviour. Sometimes a short scroll gets it going, and other times you need to do a long one for it to work.

I have filed a bug report for this via ADC, will see what comes back.

Is anyone else having this problem on a unibody machine. I am, but can anyone with a non-unibody machine report similar behaviour?

(Was also expecting some more multi-touch gesture support in this update... but alas no...)

i wish itunes wouldnt have to load my album art one by one in grid view every single time i open iTunes. Maybe im not saving the artwork in the right place? Usually if iTunes does not have the art, i will google search it, import into iphoto, save it to an event, and then go into itunes and manually add it. Do ones FROM iTunes need to be re-loaded? hmm

I just drag and drop from safari to iTunes and it does all the work.

has anyone problems with coverflow? it seems not to recognize scrolling with the touchpad.

Hmm, I don't like the change they made to iTunes DJ, whereby when you double click one of the upcoming songs, it just brings it forward, instead of skipping all the songs before it. Now if I want to skip a block of music I'm not in the mood to listen to, I have to double-click the song I want, then remove the ones I don't from the list.

eiwww - that sounds terrible.

Front row and airport express?

Hi, Does anyone know do the updates reinstate the ability to stream music to the airport express via front row? Cheers

I noticed another bug with the 8.1 update.

When you select an entire album and click Get Info and drag album art over and save it, after all of the artwork has been applied (and all of the songs are still selected), the artwork in the little window on the bottom left goes blank. You have to unselect all of the songs and select them again before it shows back up. By the way, the window is set to show the artwork for the selected song, not the song currently playing.

It's not a big deal, but it is annoying... especially since I'm in the middle of ripping my entire CD collection as Apple Lossless.

iTunes 8.1 has a definite problem with sideways swiping in Cover Flow mode.

Make thyselves heard.

I don't think it's supposed to be sideways anymore, unless someone made a silly coding error. Try scrolling vertically- it works quite normally that way. Not sure if this was intentional, but this is definitely the "proper" way to scroll in cover flow in 8.1

I can understand that in a way, as you are scrolling the list below, which in turn moves the coverflow view accordingly.

However it is quite apparent that their interface guidelines are fairly certain here, that sideways scrolling moves left or right in cover-flow (like in Finder and all other versions of iTunes previous that had Coverflow). To not do that is a pretty glaring HIG oversight.

This issue is not really that it has gone for good, more that sideways scrolling is there, but works very badly, and is not intuitive like it was before.

I'll see what the ADC bug-report comes back with.

agreed. it's not intuituve anymore, and should be changed back

What the hell...ok, is anyone else having this problem? I ran Software Update (which installed iTunes 8.1 and the new FrontRow). After the installer finished, I opened iTunes and came across this:

Picture1-2.png

The bars labeled Name, Artist, etc. are all messed up. They aren't clickable. It's like they're just stuck.

So I tried restarting my Mac. Nothing, still there. I downloaded the iTunes 8.1 installer, installed, and it's still there. o_O Wtf...

EDIT: Tired repairing permissions, nothing.

not sure if anyone else has posted about this but i can't be bothered reading through all the posts...

it looks like you can now update windows formatted ipods software on a mac with itunes 8.1. previously you had to use a windows machine to format it and apply updates.

Cannot download a thing...

Since upgrading to 8.1, I can't download iPhone apps or TV shows (Season Pass). I get an error that says simply:

"Unable to check for available downloads. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
