crashing

Um, I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but 8.2 is crashing about 20 seconds after i launch it. Each and every time.
Not an issue with previous version.

Just me, or does the interface seem lighter colour wise?
It's not.

Nice iTunes plus cd import levels!
...which are identical to the import settings I've been using in iTunes since forever. At least people who never ever change their import options will have a better quality default.

Maybe you should stick with 8.1 then instead of futureversions of doom. :p

????

I always wonder how they can get it to be "faster and more responsive".

I mean, it isn't hardware advancement.

- better code perhaps...if so, why wasn't it that way to in previous version

Yes

Yes, you're right. I accidently went several months into the future and got 8.2 which isn't compatible with the current version of the internet. My mistake. :)

But, as an update, it now seems ok, crashing has ceased.

Ya...I don't see how importing CDs into 256k AAC is a new feature....if it's AAC plus, then that'll be a nice feature...

I haven't noticed it being any faster, but I did notice it said "verifying iPhone" before syncing. I might just have not ever noticed it before, but if this is new, could it be something to thwart jailbreaking?

That could be said of any software. But as you add more features and changes and expand upon an app, the code will inevitably get a little messy, and can be cleaned up a little, made more efficient. Snow Leopard, actually, is going to be (in part) a huge effort to clean up the OS.

Well I compared loading my library on 8.0.2 vs 8.1 and 8.0.2 took 4 seconds to load my library while 8.1 took 2 seconds, not bad (keep in mind my iTunes folder is 218.26 GB, most of it is TV shows and movies, only 7.87GB music)

Wow, iTunes 8.1 is insanely fast.

Just 2 bounces on the dock before it instantly opens (note, this is on an original Macbook Core Duo). Scrolling through a library is instant.

iTunes 8.1 now imports with the following settings by default (ie: iTunes Plus):

256kbps with VBR turned on

Because programmers are human, and writing the most efficient possible code is actually really quite difficult.

I usually am pretty skeptical when people say that things are quicker, but this update has *definitely* made iTunes open quicker. I've just tested between two identical Macbooks, and while 8.0.2 takes 4 bounces on the dock to open, 8.1 is only 2. This is with a pretty similar sized library (both around 25gb music only). Not scientific, but I reckon there is a definite improvement. :)

Maybe post jobs era... wed releases ?

We're not in a post Jobs era. Steve is just taking a leave of absence. It's not like he's retired, or dead.

Anyways, I'm actually finding that 8.1 is slower then 8.0.2 was. Under 8.0.2, it took 2 seconds for iTunes to open, and under 8.2 it takes 5 seconds. I have 55 GBs worth of media in my library, and this is on a late 2007 iMac.

the overall theme of iTunes definitely seems slightly brighter. check the upper left traffic light buttons for ex.
