How bout the bug that doesn't even let you launch iTunes 8? It scans your album artwork and hangs and then crashes iTunes. Even hitting stop does nothing. I now have no access to my music library. GREAT.

so i was just using genius and i double-clicked on a new song and i got the blue screen of death. this has never happened to me on this computer (at least in recent history), has this happened to anyone else?
and i know my first mistake is using windows but i'm just waiting for new mbp's.

Mistakes in the portuguese translation: Where we read Free, in the iPod main screen at iTunes, the portuguese translation says "Grátis", and it should say "Disponível". You see, "Free" and "Avaliable" mean the same, but "Grátis" doesn't mean the same as "Disponível".

(I know, it's not really a bug, but I think someone should say something)

Same exact error.

I just reverted back to Itunes 7. What you will need to do, and this will only work if you use time machine, you need to restore Itunes from your latest backup prior to the Itunes 8 upgrades AND you will have to restore your folder with your Itunes library files (this is because Itunes8 makes the file incompatible with Itunes7 after upgrading.)

Ack. I haven't been using Time Machine. I was just thinking about starting this morning. Oh the irony. Now what do I do?

[Update: I just tried deleting my entire iTunes folder (first moving my music files elsewhere) and reinstalling. It didn't help. Same problem.]

Do you have any sort of backup? If you don't have Itunes 7 and your old library files backed up you may be SOL until the next version.

If you want iTunes 7.7, you can download it here.
Do you want your 8-track player with a USB or Firewire connection? :D

So.....I dont use time machine but am experiencing issues with iTunes. I have an ipod nano that took a dip in the lake. I dried it out and revived it after 5 days. Everything worked as it once did. I was able to add/delete music and charge it with zero problems with iTunes 7.x. After I upgraded to iTunes 8 all of the sudden there is a disk read error message when I plug in my nano (despite the fact that it still reveals the music on my nano) I cannot change whatever is already on there. I fear restoring my nano b/c it may not allow me to put any music on there and then I am left with a nano that doesn't work anymore. I mainly use it for the gym and rarely add or take off any music but I do wish it orked as it once did.

Any suggestions on how I can restore the old itunes?? I have like 30 GB of itunes music and only 20 GB left on my HD so I cant just copy a music folder and redo things.

Please advise you mac gurus!!

iTunes toolbar

I've always used the iTunes toolbar, but apparently I'm not allowed anymore. When I minimize my iTunes the toolbar appears but the buttons don't do anything! Help anyone?

You quoted me in your post. Did you take the time to read the post you quoted? It includes a link to download iTunes 7.7. You uninstall iTunes 8 and reinstall iTunes 7.7.

Yes, I took the time to read it, and I also read that the iTunes 8.0 installation makes the music files incompatible with previous iTunes versions. I was seeking advice for somebody that does not use timemachine and is trying to revert back to a previous version of iTunes.

If I uninstall iTunes 8 will that affect the music stored through iTunes? Sorry for my incompetence, I have only been using a mac for 8 months.

If you install iTunes 8, then uninstall, then reinstall iTunes 7.7, your music plays just fine. iTunes does not modify your music files at all, unless you specifically make it do so.

Thank you. Before I uninstall, should I move the iTunes music folder contents to another destination? Being underneath the iTunes directory would that go to during the uninstallation procedure?? Should I then move it back after the reinstall? If so, will this affect my album artwork? Should I move that directory too? I have 350 albums or so and replacing all the artwork would be a pain, as a lot of my music is underground and not available though itunes online. Sorry for all the ?'s but I am curious!

I appreciate the advice!!

No, just drag the iTunes.app from your applications folder to the trash. You may need to lauch Activity Monitor from your Utilities folder and make sure iTunes Helper is not running. If it is, click on it and click the stop sign to stop the process. Then empty the trash. Then download and install iTunes 7.7. You don't need to move any libraries or other files. It won't affect your preferences or music files, artwork, etc.

Choppy Airtunes!

I am also having a problem with the choppy Airtunes.

I have a Windows computer on that I use exclusively only for Airtunes control using my iPhone as the remote.

When I first open up iTunes, everything is fine, no choppiness. Yesterday I went to work and came back home, unpaused the audio and it was severely choppy, like completely unlistenable.

I rebooted the machine, reopened iTunes and everything was fine. Left it on overnight, now it's back to being choppy!

It seems that the longer the app is on, the more screwed up it gets. Anyone else have this problem?

The machine is running an E8400, 8GB of RAM, and has 2TB of drivespace. It's also connected via GigE to an Airport Extreme N (GigE) and the network is 5GHz Wireless N only. So... it's not a laggy setup by any means...

Mine won't update apps anymore with version 8, when I tried to update the apps it made me sign up for Genius and then proceeded to not download any updates, nor will it after a restart. It's also saying that I have 8 updates available when just before I updated, there were none.

For me, it won't do anything after clicking 'upgrade all', but will claim that there are no new upgrades when clicking the button again.
It will then actually correctly download the upgrades if I select 'check for available downloads' in the 'store' menu.

I don't know whether this behaviour is specific to my installation or whether it's a general iTunes 8 bug...

Since upgrading to itunes 8, can't download videos

I tried to download a free video for my daughter's ipod. I got a message saying I had to upgrade to 8.0 to download the video. After upgrading, itunes will let me purchase but not download these. I do have one click enabled, have restarted my imac, have the latest version of Quicktime, but nothing works. I can check in the store menu for my available downloads, but if I try to download them I always get the error message, "There were problems downloading some of your purchased items." Um, yeah, all of them since itunes 8 was installed. I already sent a problem report to Apple, but has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I still have a problem where my music will randomly stop playing. It is as if someone hit the pause button, but I know no one has. It cannot be a remote because I my linked my remote to work with my computer only, and I can see it on my desk no being touched.

Like I said, sometimes iTunes will just randomly stop playing, as if the pause button has been hit. Very annoying, and with present in 7.7.1.

Weird. I'm still getting it.

I'm getting that as well. Clicking on the iTunes icon makes it come up properly.

But how weird. I'd already noticed it before, but hadn't figured out how it was happening. There's another way of making it do this that doesn't involve Cmd+Tab, though I can't remember how I keep managing it.

Pretty annoying bug.

Click store/Check for Available Downloads.

-iTunes Store is 2x slower than it normally is
-TV Seasons out of order when in Thumbnail view (not iTunes purchases, only info on Video tab
-No option of putting video in bottom left corner where artwork is (really annoying for me when i'm trying to watch a TV Show wen categorizing stuff)

Really it being slow may just explain why the previews now load instantly even on a 2mbps connection.

I have same issue with Airtunes (error-3256), but how do you fix in Tiger?

The menus are different, and I don't mess with these settings often enough to have a clue.

Thanks.

That's okay, Mitch. I wish it were that easy. My error code (I finally found it) is 5000, so it has to do with permissions. When I get info on my itunes music folder through finder, I see that the folder is now read only (and no yellow padlock so I can't get in to change the permissions). I can't even import anything into itunes anymore. I am waiting for a call back from applecare.

Fixed my itunes permissions!

Well, I was afraid to try Terminal commands, so I just dragged my itunes music folder onto the desktop. From there it let me open up the details triangle (under Ownership & Permissions). There I could unlock the padlock and change my permissions to read/write. It looks like everything is downloading just fine now. Don't have any idea why it would have changed to read only after the itunes 8 upgrade, but I'm just glad to have it working again!:)

So far, it appears that the vast majority of "problems" with iTunes 8 relates to users' understanding of iTunes preferences, AirTunes configuration, and understanding new iTunes controls and features. So far, I haven't seen a "bug" of any kind. My iTunes works perfectly. I'm listening to music now via AirTunes. No "choppiness" or any other undesired activity. If users would take a few minutes to familiarize themselves with the new version, they'd find out how to use it, instead of immediately blaming things on a bug or design flaw.
