Tested this theory on 2 different setups (my giging macbook with Beyer DT100 headphones and a mac pro with KRK VXT6 monitors and Apogee converters)

I used .wav's of my own tracks and things I recorded, and noticed no difference what so ever.

The only thing that I could think of as an explanation (besides untestable, subjective audiophile hype) is that they have changed the processing for the sound enhancer and eq, I don't use both so maybe that explains some of the results.

Edit: That being said I remember previous versions had a lesser sound quality, when comparing the same tracks through Itunes and Logic......but this was over a year ago so that was 7.4 maybe?

Just to add my 2 cents. I too noticed a considerable difference on my HK soundsticks. I was chalking it up to my imagination/placebo, etc until I saw this post.

In my case I was sure I didn't use the EQ until I checked and found that I did set one up...just because it had sounded flat before. Whatever has changed, my best description would be 'brighter' as well as more defined. fwiw

I played apple lossless files through my airport express to my Moon amp with Paridigm speakers and a Rel amp and never noticed a difference.

To make sure I loaded the same Cd on my dad's macbook with it7 and couldn't hear any difference.

I have gotten the odd pop before and haven't yet so maybe there is a difference there but maybe they just did something to make built in speakers sound better?

Let's hope you're using the digital connection on the airport express and not the analogue one - otherwise we can disregard everything you said...

That's two people now who say no difference on lossless encoded (both Apple Lossless and .wav); so it could be the aac or mp3 decoder that has improved.
