I agree. Possibly firmware 2.0 for the touch devices too (sandboxing and application signing support like Leopard has).

That too. I expecting that in Feb, apple will announce lots of goodies for iphone and touch users. Some of the features we've been moaning about (disk support, voice notes, that sort of thing..) and the new SDK, and new iTunes which might sync properly. Kinda off topic, but is it just me that when i sync my iPhone, itunes deletes all the pics off my iphone except the ones that were taken by the iphone. it cant seem to sync with iPhoto properly.

I don't see that behaviour, check your settings for photos in iTunes and iPhoto?

yeh, ill have a good look some time. its not a major issue, I only sync once in a blue moon. cant be bothered to unplug the usb from the charger and into my macbook. Too much effort!

Why do you want a new iTunes version? Does the music sound better in v8 than in v7 for some reason? Is there a feature missing in current version?

Only ITMS features missing , but they could fix the skipping problem for much people.

Another missing feature...

I agree with that (even though its never happened to me). But another feature Apple could include is:

Upon maximizing Cover Flow, scroll through to your selected artist or album and simply click to flip it over, and choose a track. Then just click outside the current picture, to flip it back.

I really hope Apple includes this, as iTunes would then be seen as "an iPhone or iPod touchs' life long companion (with the same cover flow implementation)

Any opinions/ideas??????

I don't particularly care when iTunes 8 comes out, but I would wager it'd be MacWorld. iTunes is getting to the point where it's difficult to have it do any more. It's already bloated beyond where it should be. Some part of me somewhere wishes Apple would release an iTunes lite. And I still prefer having Cover Flow running full screen in one monitor while having iTunes minimised; something which I cannot do with iTunes' implementation of Cover Flow.

I needed to put something here about iTunes 8 just so I can say:

Hurray! The best iTunes icon ever devised! To this day, I still use it as my main icon. And even though it's somewhat low resolution, I use it in Front Row, too.

^

You could always download the original Cover Flow, I'm glad that the dev re-enabled full screen not long before apple bought it.

Aye, that is what I do. It's a little choppier than iTunes' implementation, and it doesn't stay full screen when clicking out of it, but zooming it gets the job done.

I still would like having the option of running iTunes' version in a separate full screen instance, though. If they didn't black out both monitors, iTunes' version would be just about perfect.

I posted the exact same thing somewhere on MacRumors some time ago. I totally agree , mate , that would be AWESOME! iPod/iPhone style :D

My library (music only) is under 40GB, its ridiculous how slowly iTunes opens on my Macbook C2D with 1GB RAM...

I don't rate my music, but now the previously-beautiful Album view has 5 stars under each covers, and it looks dreadful. Why isn't this an option?

Because Apple thinks you like it , and if you don't, then start.

Seriouslly, if they put an option on everything you would have some hell of a settings pane ;)

There is a massive list in iTunes of what to have in the columns, why not add the stars to that:

It's another scheme to make you start rating your music and be like the rest of us. Come on. You know you want to start rating. Resistance is futile. You will be like us.

:D

I listen to the music I feel like listening to, I don't need an app telling me how much I like some songs. If they're not good enough for me to sometimes want to listen to, they're not in my library...I could have a "favourites" playlist with 5-star songs, but I don't feel like some great songs at all times...

I actually really like the album ratings feature. It helps you rate a larger percentage of your library (with the expense of some measure of granularity) more quickly. Plus, you can set an album rating that might not necessarily be the mathematical average of the ratings of the tracks on it (good for those albums that are better than the sum of their parts). :D

I like it , too. but when I rate a song on my iPod , will my iPod pass on the rating to itunes so it will apear there , too? it sure would make sense but my ipod doesnt seem to do that..

Well since MWSF has gone and passed, now when do you think ITunes 8 will be here...my guess is September-ish.:D

It would have to be a pretty major upgrade to be dubbed version 8, wouldn't it? I mean, how long has iTunes 7 been out and how many upgrades have happened? A lot, and some fairly major (movies/tv purchase, now rental, etc.)

I'd be really curious to see what would be needed to dubbed it iTunes 8.

iTunes 8 Features

Multiple artist listings (will appear under both artists on iPod)
Genre tag support

Full liner notes for music and movies in Coverflow (arrows to switch pages)
Music Video category in library section
Video category for sorting
Arrows next to repeat to change how many times a playlist will repeat (instead of infinitely)
