Learn how to use iTunes. I've used it for 7+ years with no issue. Hint.... let iTunes organize your files.

There are some others... like Songbird
They won't integrate with the system as well, but some folks like them

I'm sure you have your reasons, but iTunes is probably the best for OSX

Songbird is a nice alternative I've used a few times. It's a bit power hungry though, so if you have a low spec'd machine, it probably won't do so well.

And I noticed that with the beta, it's gone Intel-only. Probably not an issue to you, but I'm kind of disappointed.:(

What is wrong with iTunes I refuse to give any alternative unless you give a better reason than it messes my music collection, It works wonders for me.

i'm sick of itunes messing up my music collections and just tossing everything everywhere. Is there a good alternative to this program on the mac?

if possible do any other programs sync with the ipod touch as well?
Yep there are alternatives but I'll have to admit to not using them. Songbird looks nice but is still only in beta.

Hint: This isn't what the OP asked for.

Good grief. The OP is not attacking your choice of media player. Some people just prefer to manage their music collection manually. You obviously don't.

i dont know for some reason when i have multiple albums in my lib it just separates the tracks instead of keeping them together under one album. I've converted the tags and everything. i know how to edit music and all so i know how this is supposed to work.

I'll give you a gold star if you can learn how to use the easiest music management software known to man.
Please don't threadcrap. The OP had a very simple request - what are the alternatives to iTunes that allow you to manually manage your music?. There's alternatives out there and a thread discussing people's impressions and experience would be interesting.

You can manually manage music in iTunes, Which I did until it became a tedious job.

Tried sort by Album?

And, I am trying to tell him that if he learned how to use iTunes the right way, it would do what he wants. I could feed him a bottle and sing him a lullaby but, that is not my style.

try songbird. ( i think someone suggested it earlier.
but its a great alternative. i myself have tried it, but dont use it constanly. i think it has ipod support as well. ( if you need it)

Man, you guys are crap at answering questions. ITunes does by no means a perfect job of organising music. If the only music you put on is high-street bought CDs and iTunes store albums from properly tagged albums, then fine, maybe. But I have many CDs that it doesn't like, and even tracks downloaded from the store that will not stay in their correct album, and only after much manual editing will stay in the right place. Also, if one decides to move over to mac from PC, it can play hell with your music collection. There is also no 'undo' in iTunes, which means if you click one wrong button, disaster can occur.

Having said all that, I still use iTunes. Songbird is pretty similar, but doesn't really seem to offer that much more. I haven't found anything better yet, but I'm still searching. Something with multiple search criteria is what i really want.

:mad::mad:First post on MacRumours and you insult us, Good one:mad::mad::mad:.
It was a well-deserved slight. A very simple question was asked and the majority of posters have struggled to address it at all. Hopefully silvarbullet1 sticks around and shares their experience. Higher content posts are always welcome.

Why should Mac users steer people or help steer people away from iTunes?
If iTunes is used correctly it is a very powerful application. I have not used windows for years so, I do not know how it works over there. But, in the Mac world, there is no need for an alternative.

Why on earth not? I don't owe Apple anything and if an alternative program better suits a user then that's great for them. I'd personally hate to be in the situation where I've only one proprietary option to use my music.

What you're really saying here is that there's no need for an alternative for what you do. This does not apply to everyone. Some people don't want all their music in itunes-compatible formats, some people like to manage their own library folders manually, some people use non-apple music players that don't sync with itunes, some people share their library over multiple computer formats (linux?). The list goes on..... There is plenty of need for alternative, even just for the sake of competition.

Bottom line... people are different and have different needs

Same reason some people choose Firefox over Safari
Some are not happy with the organization of iPhoto and seek an alternative

Okay, so you are telling me that these other applications tag, organize and file music better than iTunes? That is what the OP was looking for.
