Okay, so you are telling me that these other applications tag, organize and file music better than iTunes?
I'm not saying that at all. I was quite clear in my post that there are alternatives and that I haven't used them. I use and am happy with iTunes. However I don't for a second expect my experience to apply to everyone.

That is what the OP was looking for.
The OP wanted to know if alternate programs existed and if they had support for iPod synching. So to get back on track and give ronmaverick88 some constructive advice, in your experience archesdevil, what alternate programs to iTunes have you used and what are the strengths/weaknesses you've found? It might turn out that iTunes is the best program for ronmaverick88, but telling them to learn to use iTunes isn't constructive at all.

Ronmaverick88 Your on a Mac right? Have you gone into User/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music and checked to see if everything is still there?

Also have you gone to (In iTunes) Preferences > Advanced > And see if Keep iTunes Music Organised is picked? If it is Organised by iTunes and you change the tags (If need be so they are all correct) it should be fine.

If you look at OP's last post with screen caps, you will see that both you and I could fix this problem with proper tagging and organization in iTunes.

I just said they were tagged properly for some reason now they just got shuffled up like that, originally my entire album was like the first photo. Also I do have it checked under organized by itunes.

Did you try what I suggested?

Also I noticed you said playlists, Are you sure your looking at your library?

Yes I just tried everything everyone suggested. I am talking about my actual library. I used mp3Tag for every single album before importing it to iTunes. With mp3Tag to edit the ID3 tags. I gave all of them the proper album covers, made sure all the songs were title correctly and listed under the right genera. Now it seems as if iTunes has just erased ALL of that, some tracks do not even have their respective track numbers! I just highlighted them all and tried to fix it and as soon as I click "artists" it's back to being shuffled all up again!!

This is really annoying and I have no idea what caused this to happen. I know how to work the iTunes software so it's not like I just tossed a bunch of songs in expecting it to work. I had things neatly sorted out and now iTunes has undone all of this. I have keep iTunes folder organized checked. My music is in my Music folder, not my iTunes folder. before yesterday iTunes *was* working properly and was not giving me this issue. I have not touched any settings or anything. I did not remove any software or anything.

all the thread-drift here is because: THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO ITUNES.

There really is not. for whatever reason iTunes is allowed to be a monopoly. Between the player and the software (iPod/iTunes) and how they have to be used with each other and only each other, and the third member of this holy trinity, the itunes store...Microsoft got nailed for less than that many years back.

But that monopoly has had its reasons. The vast amount of social change that has taken place in terms of the public's acquisition of, and listening to music needed careful consideration and control. iTunes/iPod was, and is, one of the most important tools used in the implementation of this social change. Torrents and "torrenting" was/is another important tool in the implementation of change.

Now that the social change in public's behavior is almost complete, soon enough other players will be allowed to enter this particular market-place. Also, you will see, that as the public's behavior of downloading music becomes the dominate method of acquisition (pretty much there) torrenting will begin to go away and or become more difficult. (first one's free-once you are addicted you will come back to me with your money.)

....there is a mouth-full for you to digest...

Amarok 2

I know the OP has been told about Songbird, but I'm surprised (enough to create a new account here) that no one has mentioned the impending release of Amarok 2 on OS X.

I'd used Amarok 1.x about 2 years ago for a brief period and was very impressed. From the link you'll see they mention an OS X native release sometime between KDE 4.1 and 4.2. Well, 4.1 was released a few weeks ago, so it can't be long now until Amarok 2 is released as well.
If you are so inclined, you can download, compile, and build the most recent Amarok source code on you Mac. I hope this reminder is not needed - be very careful with so much music at stake. The opening line of the wiki page should serve as a reminder as well...
...you should only attempt this, if you are truly: HAAAAAAAARDCoooOOOOoooore

I'm a daily Mac user. However, I too was looking for an alternative to iTunes. iTunes, like other Apple products, limits what the user can and can't do. I am a power user, but iTunes isn't necessarily geared towards one. Simpler interfaces make for better user experience, greater stability (and reduce the divide in the '80/20 rule' - relevant to the OP). I don't care to start a flame war, so try to look at it objectively and see that this is not necessarily a bad thing. It's a design philosophy, one that has worked well for them across multiple products and platforms.

I've experienced the same problem as the OP previously. I basically had to re-edit the ID3 tags for those albums to get things to work smoothly and there are still occasional instances where things behave oddly.
Editing within iTunes is painful. I did much of my editing on Windows before moving my music to iTunes - and I still don't use it exclusively.

To the OP:

That is a bug in iTunes which sometimes messes up the album thingy. One work around is to select all the songs you want together and to mark them as "In a Compilation". That seems to bring them together. Good luck :)

another program besides itunes

is there another program i can use besides itunes to transfer files to ipod on mac i got too many songs and unchecking boxes takes forever. I had program on windows that let u transfer the folders.

:( iTunes Alternative? or Fixing MY iTunes!!!

:( :apple: :(

Ok so my issue with iTunes is that it keeps freezing on me, maybe someone could help me out.. I have a decent size library, its 38,984 Songs and 237.41 GB... It tends to freeze up a whole lot. Sometimes when i connect my iPhone, sometimes just when i select a different song. The most frustrating part of it is when i am trying to put music on my iPhone (manually managed) it just freezes, the endless hourglass type thinggy, i have an iMac which i bought in 2008, i upgraded it to 4GB of memory and the har drive is 250gb. So i do keep a lot of the music on external hard drives. I do not have itunes copying the music to the itunes folder, i dont thnk i have any of the extra options checked, such as crossfading, or the volume of music being changed, the sound enhancer is not checked... I have tried starting a new database a few times and that seems to make the program work a boit better, up until i add all my music or even most of it. Another issue is when i first open the itunes app, it will say checking itunes library and it will do that for 10 minutes, sometimes much longer... Its not cool when you try and add a few songs before i take my girlfriend to work, she starts bitching at me for taking so long and im thinking it should literally take 4 minutes to get 2 songs on the iPhone, from the time you click the iTunes app icon, to load the app, connect iPhne and drag two songs onto it, but it will freeze or take 10 minutes for the app to even load... This happens more then 50% of the time, i want to say it happens as much as 75% of the time... I am open to try anything and also willing to try another program... I have heard of songbird and tried it, but its missing some things.. I really like iTunes, just hate the issues im dealing with... Thanks in advance, i really hope someone can help me... Also, i have the latest version of itunes and latest iPhone firmware... I also keep my mac updated with latest upgrades at all times.. So i believe i am running OS X 10.5.6, i definitely have whatever is the latest... Thanks!!!!

Storing itunes media in multiple places will definitely slow down itunes. the only way you are going to be able to speed up your library is to store all files in one place. even on one external drive would speed up your itunes.

So if i just add all music from one external that would possibly fix my problem??? I will start a new itunes database and just add music from one external... or perhaps I should try the keep music organized option where it copies the music added to the itunes database to the itunes music folder??? Would that work better? or should i just copy all music to one external and add it to itunes... either way, i have to use an external because i have over 250 gigs and my main imac hard drive is 250... i am using a MY Book 500 gig firewire (The better firewire forget what its called) so speed really shouldnt be the issue pulling from the my book, just not sure if i should have it copy to itunes music folder?? thanks again.... really hope this fixes it a little bit....

Set one folder on your external drive as the default folder for iTunes through iTunes>preferences>Advanced, then go to File>Library>Consolidate Library, that will transfer all your songs to the default folder on the external that you set, keeping play count, ratings, playlists, and everything else.
