That makes sense.

And if it was an attack it'd just be down without warning. If Lion is to be released on Friday it's highly possible this is preparation for this. But App purchasing disruption for only certain areas makes me wonder. Why those areas and no other.

Could be a server stress test and those areas are the ones proved to need upgrades. Just a thought.

Apple went down on me last night, then came up again... then down.. you get the idea...

Could this be them copying stuff to the new data center (iCloud) and having a little unforeseen issue ?

I remember during the down MAS and App store, it asked me to verify my credit card multiple times.. i hope this doesn't mean they stole my credit card lol

I've just changed my password and removed my card details for the time being until I know whats going on. Can't be too careful eh?

D

This is probably Lodsys, trying to get revenge for in app purchases... Damn them!

If you assume it's not an attack, I would think they are doing some serious moving of services to the new data center in prep for Lion. We know it's more than likely coming this week, so I'm sure they want to make sure it launches flawlessly.

Can't wait until they bring it on!

I know that none of you will believe me. I messaged @Lulsec on twitter (not expecting a response). Asking if they where DDOS ing Apple. They came back and said "depends who's asking"
So I replied"just a geek"
And they relied "we confirm"

If anyone at Mac Rumours wants to PM an email adress, I can send you the screenshot from my twitter.

Just checked your timeline and it seems you are right

My credit on my account seems to have all of a sudden changed from £45 to about 54p! Anyone else having any trouble like this, I have also changed my password

It's because you're talking to some nobody. You got a reply from lulsec, not lulzsec.

Yes that happened to me too!from like £15 down to like 59p last night

This is very plausible. Cause having the servers go down on Lion launch day (even for a second) anywhere will be such bad PR for Apple. They really need to test the system over and over now to make sure Lion launch day is smooth sailing.

Oh no! I won't be able to purchase apps from "the Mexico"!

The full sentence listed "the Mexico, ... storefronts" (with other countries where the ... goes.) That is accurate. You *could* buy apps in Mexico, from the U.S. storefront.

I really hope Lulzsec hasn't decided to attack Apple. It probably has the most credit card numbers stored, next to the credit card companies themselves. And going after emails and passwords has been their modus operandi in the past.

Another good reason not to register your credit card with iTunes and just use iTunes giftcards. The other reason being iTunes giftcards can be purchased at a discount, always from Sam's Club, Costco, BJ's and sometimes from Staples and BestBuy.

Surely the Lion downloader will involve some sort of P2P technology?

With so many people downloading the same 4GB file at the same time, it would be silly not to.

Maybe they're changing the iTunes store architecture to be able to deal with this.
