Two quick questions - I thought you were able stream tracks without actually downloading them onto the device (as a 'permanent' download) but that doesn't seem to be the case.

1. Is it possible to stream tracks using iTunes Match (in the sense that the track gets cached but not kept as a download)?

2. If not, is there a way to delete the downloaded tracks in bulk? I tried by looking at the Recently Played playlist but it seems I can't delete the tracks from there... is there another way?

Thanks!

1. The tracks are downloaded to the device. It's not a music streaming service, but rather a music sharing one. You can, however, scrub through the track as it downloads.

2. You're unable to remove them from Recently Played, as the "swipe" action in a playlist defaults to removing items from a playlist. Smart playlists cannot have items removed. You need to swipe to delete manually in your library to remove the music. You can swipe artists, albums, songs, etc.

How long is the upload taking for everyone ? It is saying I have approx. 7000 tracks to upload - but it has only done 100 of them so far and it has been running for 6 hours now !

The main factor will be your internet upload speed, which could be very slow.

Mine seem to be taking about 5 minutes a song, on average, so 7000 songs would take almost a month. Your speeds seem similar.

I am actually using an App I bought ages ago, called Tuneranger, which syncs iTunes libraries, and I'm introducing songs artist by artist into a new library to be matched. I'm really glad I've done it that way. It means that I can chose what albums to match, sort out any problems on an artist by artist basis, and only upload when the internet isn't being used. I suspect that it means it will be a good month or so before it's all done though. Still, I've been meaning to go through and sort everything out for ages.

18 000 tracks

matched 14,000

uploaded 4,000

deleted 6,700, due to be lower than 256kbps

downloaded 3,000 in 2 hours another 3,700 or so to go.

all in all i like it,

im missing album art on my ipad and iphone though

My iTunes Match is giving out errors like these:

picture.php

And it keeps going back to Step 2: Matching your music, its been like that for a day and it never completes. I'd say 60% of my music is matched, the other 20% purchased, the other 20% giving out the error above.

:(

does the new files matched in the iCloud come with all information (album name, album cover, track #, etc.?)

My current files don't have any other information besides artist and song name.

Just tried to sign up in the UK and it say they're not accepting new subscribers right now :(

Showing up in the Netherlands.... strange???

But when I click on it, it returns an error.

disappointment

Im so disappointed in Itunes Match. I wish I could get a refund but they said no, so I have to wait a year. I mean it's not a streaming service. All it does is allow you to download songs to your devices from anywhere and have the time it freezes up or doesn't download them all. This happens on 3 devices.

Oh well they can't all be good.

If I signed up for something that isn't a streaming service, and has never claimed to be a streaming service then I don't think I'd be surprised to find that it isn't a streaming service.

Maybe it's just me.

Have a look in "Activity Monitor" under "Network" to see what your upload speed is. I have just slightly above 100 KByte per second. Upload speed is usually a lot less than download.

I signed up for a service that lets me update all the CDs that I should have ripped at higher bit rates, but didn't due to too little hard drive space years ago, and my Amazon downloads, and even some LPs. I remember in the day there were people offering a ripping service for $1 per CD. I have boxes full, and some are years old which means there will be more reading errors. Absolutely worth it.

And when my old MacBook eventually stops working, the wife will be happy with an MBA with 64GB, because she can get all the music she wants on it without filling the hard drive.

I've signed up for iTunes Match, matched and uploaded to the cloud.. all good.

After activating iTunes Match on my phone, means that any music that couldn't be uploaded to the cloud for any reason isn't available on the phone? I need to disable iTunes Match on my phone for all my music to be available and go back to syncing from iTunes.

If I want all my music available to me elsewhere , iCloud isn't the way to go.

quick question

do you have to upload unmatched tracks ? I simply want to upgrade what track that the have available ?

I'm disappointed with itunes match too, but in my case its because it appears to be an awfully unstable stack of crap that has made itunes even less stable than it was before and keeps restarting itself.

Not sure its fair to blame it for not being a streaming service when it was never touted as one... you might as well complain that it isn't a car too and be done with it.

Itunes match only matched about 50% of my songs and it took forever for the rest to upload then all my artwork was gone and about 50 songs became corrupt and wouldnt work anymore so i got a refund cuz i was pretty disappointed

From what people have figured out, seems like acoustic fingerprint only, tags make no difference (which is a shame, they'd match many more and be more accurate if they looked at tags as well).

hi. thank you!

i thought it only used tags...

i'm happy to read that it uses acoustic fingerprints, because wrong tagging could have led to wrong matching.

It makes sense that if iTunes matches your song to "its" song, they have to sound the same, no matter the track title or tags.

thank you

For the last few days I've been getting this error since I have signed up to itunes match.

I have done what it said multiple times, each time i have to click add this computer again.

Yes. That's what I keep getting. itunes match is a steaming unstable pile of rubbish at the moment and Apple don't want to give people refunds

Itunes Match : aka "mobile me harder"

...Apple don't want to give people refunds...

They don't want to, but a number of people have reported getting refunds. Be persistent with them and just be aware that if you get a refund they make you wait a year before signing up for match again.

Hi,

I have some music on my PC, but i don't pay too much atention to the mp3 tags, so they are all messed up. I know that iTunes Match matches the tracks based on the acoustic fingerprint of each track, and if there is any tag on the file, uses it to get a more precise matching if the fingerprint is not enough

Also, when a track gets matched, iTunes keeps it metadata (mp3tags) embedded in the Cloud, so if there is something wrong with it, when you download that track from the Cloud, the wrong tagging comes with it.

My question is:

Instead of correcting the tags before trying to match the songs, Will it be better to delete all the tags of all the mp3s, let iTunes Match match the songs based only on their fingerprint, and then download all of them so they are downloaded with the correct Tags??????

I think that if an mp3 with no tags gets matched, the Cloud version will have tags; correct??

Thank you!
