I was curious what you guys pay for these? I personally wont go over $4. Unless its Disney, those go for about $7 usually.

I TRY to stay under $3 each or $10 for a trilogy. When the new releases come out, and it's movie that I really wanted, I may go higher.

I have paid more than $10 for Disney, but older titles like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast (no longer selling blares with digital copies so they are harder [ in the Vault])

for Back to the Future Trilogy, I paid $9...but that was iTunes and UV...I had a giveaway for the UV code.
stuff like Interstellar that lots of people have can be had for $1 or even free.

Some people try to sell Disney Vault titles for $45-90!!

and yeah the sellers either trade for stacks of codes, some people look at Yard Sales and second hand shops, and some people get stacks of code sheets via other ways they do not disclose.

as long as they are not XML, they are as good as buying the movie from iTunes...Disney XML is fine since if it is DMA-title it'll upgrade to HD.

How? How is selling used DVDs and Blu-Rays, or unused digital codes that only come with purchased DVDs or Blu-Rays illegal? Wouldn't GameStop's used movie and game sales also be illegal?

FYI, last month Disney gave away the code to Monster Inc, when you added a connected service. Also Fox gives bonus codes on certain movies, so people sell the extra code if they don't need it. You can also buy the same digital codes on eBay.

I actually think its probably a good thing for the business. I would say that having the this outlet of selling on the digital codes will incentivise people to go out and buy the physical copies from stores or online. its almost like a rebate scheme. There is also no cost to the studio for people to Dl the digital copy.

I'm curious about it myself. I bought a couple earlier. Seems possibly wrong, but doesn't seem much different than buying a slew of dvds at a yard sale for a dollar a piece.
The difference is that in this case, the owner of the DVD keeps the DVD while you buy the digital copy. He’s basically selling you a copy of the DVD. It’s one thing to make a personal copy of a DVD, but you can’t legally sell a copy of it. And if you give or sell the original to someone, you legally have to destroy all of the copies you have made of it.

In the case of buying DVDs at a yard sale for a a dollar apiece, as long as the owner destroys any copies he has made of the DVDs he’s selling, there’s no legal issue. He’s selling an original copy and he doesn’t have any extra copies which he may have made.

If your’e going to sell someone a digital copy of a movie, you must also give him the DVD it came with. Have you noticed that, for example, a juice box might have “Not for individual resale” printed on the side? It’s a bit like that.

This is also true but if you see my post above, I imagine its good for the DVD industry in terms of keeping physical sales alive.

its also not hidden away on the internet so I imagine they know it goes on and are ok with it.

There's nothing wrong with selling used DVDs. That's not what I'm saying.

You can't sell the digital copy's code separately from the the physical copy. If you sell one, you have to sell both. Selling and buying digital copy codes is like making a copy of the DVD and selling the copy while keeping the original. That's called piracy.

Here are two free codes. One is iTunes HD and the other is a UV code. I don't need either one and don't want to bother trying to sell them for $1 or trade them. If you redeem them, let me know and I'll remove the codes.

I'm not so sure about that.

What about digital codes that never had a physical copy?

I think I heard somebody on another forum mention that the giving out, selling, or trading of digital copy codes goes AGAINST the fine print. as the person stated above made a analogy to physical objects.

But these sites that do sell the codes are "large" and I would think the studios would go after them but...

Perhaps this is like you buy a Bluray/DVD movie bundle and give the DVD to a relative. you keep the bluray and the relative gets the DVD. probably shouldn't do that either.

But, nobody has had movies taken back. Even when Flixster had an OOPS last couple weeks were a single UV Code might give multiple redemptions and it seemed a TV Season would give not just the SINGLE redemption but a redemption of the Entire Series for each Season. so, if it was a 7-Season Series 7 people could redeem the same code for the Whole Series. an Oops that I think Flixster might have since fixed.

**First, nice of you to Drop those codes. I didn't take them (I have Hercules and not sure I'd want a copy of Heat) but a very nice thing indeed.

Are you able to get digital copy codes for a movie/title that never had a physical copy?
The only way I could see this happening is with some recent releases like Jurassic World that not only gave out 2 (UV and iTunes) copies but also 1 or 2 copies of your choice of 4 bonus movies. not sure if those bonus movies actually had a physical disc and digital copy code or not

Thats exactly the scenario I was thinking about. Also there are games codes for DL content that are given out as promotional items. Also there are VUDU credit codes that are given out with other purchases, that can be used to purchase movies with the credits.

Gotcha. yeah that all makes sense now.

yeah i have done.. i want to get some disney movies but looks like i got to mess about signing up for DMA

DMA is worth it. It is so simple to use and they give you free movies for linking accounts. If you owned SD marvel/Disney movies they will upgrade them to HD automatically.

Does DMA work with iTunes?

Yes it does. You can connect it to VUDU, Google, Microsoft, iTunes, and Amazon Video. Buy one movie and it shows on all connected services. It's the safest place to have your movies. It also explains why Disney movies can be the most expensive too. Also if you connect a service you will get Monster, Inc for free.

Yeah it's a great feature. Worth the hassle for setting up an account. Just scored Aladin and Age of Ultron for 10 bucks.

Currently Hocus Pocus is $9.99 on all the DMA Partners with the exception of GooglePlay. they are selling it for $7.99. GP did that the last time around when there was the PIXAR sale, they were $2 cheaper

I used discounted iTunes Gift Cards so it was about the same price as it would have been had i gone with GP.

Also, just to note, some Marvel movies that are still available in XML format (Capt'n America 1 and Thor 1) will convert SD to HD but they will not include iTunes Extras. this is because of the original studio behind the film and some conflict.

and if you sign up for DMA, don't forget to also sign up for DMR. Disney Movie Rewards. you get points for buying digital movies and points when you enter a code for digital copy via bluray (you only get points once per bluray [unless you use the Amazon trick I posted earlier] and if you buy a DC+ or XML you don't get the points). Anyway, with these points you can buy gift cards, Disney merchandise or Movies (bluray/DVD)

What is XML? I understand in the OP it mentioned you need a workaround format, but what does that really mean?

I can't remember what it stands for right now, but basically it is a workaround for needing the actual Disc.
in the early days of Digital Copies, the actual digital copy was on a disc. But, there is a way you can fool the computer in to thinking you have the DVD inserted. you open a file (DMG) and it brings up iTunes and iTunes thinks there is a DVD inserted. then you type in the code in iTunes, it verifies it, and you now have made the "purchase". this is great for people who might actually buy an old Bluray with physical digital copy disc but NOT have a DVD Drive.

You can keep the DMG around for future use and the CODE will only work once, not like you can keep passing it around. the Code is the KEY, the XML/DMG file is just the thing you need to fool iTunes into thinking you have the DVD.

XML is only iTunes I believe. since back then UV wasn't around.
