That's cool about the app... Would be neat if I had an iPad.... And a service provider who would provide speeds faster than 1.5Mbps... And LTE on a band that works with the LTE iPad...

Screw it, I'm going to move to the center of Kansas City.

Depends on where you are. Here in Australia "Cable" refers to HFC Coaxial cables. Mostly used to deliver cable TV. Fiber uses fiber-optic cable to deliver its high speed. As most of the un-informed sheep who quote our useless government "FIBER IS TEH WAY OFF DA FUCHOR!!!!1one NOTING TRAVLZ FASTR THN LITE!!!..."

People annoy me, I'm moving off to a hut somewhere in the back of mongolia.

Im barely on ADSL speeds here, i thought that was the future... they'll never roll out fiber to my home!

Trailers for what? There's hardly any decent HD movies on iTunes anyway. 720p or 1080p. I've just started buying BluRay disks again coz the HD content available on iTunes is so limited.

Pppffttt, BluRay? DVDs are the best, especially when you're playing them on a Feroudja.

Without a new iPad, screenshots seem a little redundant :)

Viewing this on my MBP, I can't gauge how crisp it should be...

Don't most high-bandwidth apps (Netflix, YouTube, etc,) restrict data usage on cell connections still?

Yup, it automatically lowers the resolution on LTE too.. Even though my wifi was 6 Mbps and was getting around 30 Mbps on LTE. Ended up just pausing it and waiting for it to load on wifi so that it wouldn't scale down the quality.

Does no one realize this app was displaying 1080P before this update? This was merely a cosmetic fix for the app's frontend and artwork. Noticed the HD streams last weekend and was showing off the screen with it.

yup it looked pretty good last week already. the quality of the trailer did not change at all from last week to this week.

Great idea, i'll create a whole new account, repurchase every one of my apps, so i can download a trailers app.

my point was that i can view these trailers on apples site, and my apple tv using my UK account, i just don't understand why they don't make this app available to us too? I'm not that fussed about getting it, i just find it odd.

What a stupid post. I live in Canada, and I've also opened a US account so I can have those few apps that aren't available here- including the trailers app. You can easily open a US account wherever you are, Google it, you don't need payment info or anything, especially for free apps. Repurchase your apps? WTF are you talking about? Yes, you need to sign in and out of both store accounts to update apps on both, etc, but its a small price to pay.

That *is* the problem. Same thing happened to me, you can watch what happens - watch the bar showing where the play is at, you can see it buffer ahead, and then eat that buffer, and then it switches. You can turn that off and make it pause to buffer instead, the settings are in the general iPad Settings app.

It's ridiculous that they still haven't fixed that. It has been doing that since I can remember and it is as annoying as it was the first time. Update after update and they don't fix it.
Whoever is programming this app hopefully isn't coding anything important.

They still haven't fixed...your Internet connection to be faster? It's obvious the app is trying to stream the videos, there isn't enough bandwidth, so the app switches to a lower resolution video that doesn't require as much bandwidth when it runs out of buffer. The high-res trailers require a lot of bandwidth, even my desktop computer needs to buffer the 1080p videos up before playing them.

It doesn't look like its streaming properly. The graphics and artwork look amazing, and the trailers look incredible for ~5seconds -- then the screen flickers to black and it switches over to a very low quality stream. I tried 8 trailers and they all did the exact same thing.

I'm on my home WIFI, and speed shows I'm getting 21mbps down right now, So I dont think that is the problem.

If you're using 802.11g, you can only really realistically expect about 5 mbps real-world performance, even with good signal quality.

Also, if your internet sucks, it doesn't matter how fast your WiFi connection is, it will always be bottlenecked by your incoming bandwidth.

Wirelessly posted

Excellent news. If only I could actually download it...STILL not in the UK store... Seriously... Why? And while I'm in the moaning mood, why is the apple store app not universal? WTF?

Fiber broadband... You mean cable? (I assume not, but it's always a fun question to the misinformed.)

UVerse, 24/3
I only mentioned since many video streams adjust quality for bandwidth.

Though cable in this area would be faster at about 30/6 per soeedtest.

one correction, .11G should pull 20mbps no problem.

Looks gorgeous on my new iPad. However, it crashes a lot. Amost every preview I played (on wifi) crashed and I had to re launch it.

I'm more concerned with the 'using all of your LTE bandwidth allotment'. How long do we have to tolerate carriers limiting the use of their 'fast' services. They might as well have a marketing campaign that says "It's the fastest in the world (for 10 minutes then you run at less than modem speeds)".

If it's fast and you advertise it as such, then prove it by letting your customers actually use it. Then when you get some revenue from them, reinvest it in more infrastructure so when your customer numbers increase it's still fast.

Off topic...but love the still frame of the video they are showing on the cover of this story. Looks like Chucky's bride! Creeping me out...

App updates are always good.

I will try it out a little later today.

Speaking of HD, has anybody taken a look at the latest iTuneU iOS development flicks? That is on an iPad 3. I'm being shocked by some of the HD stamped course videos. It makes me wonder if they are recording some of these lectures at greater than 1080P. I ask because the entire screen is used with little in the way of artifacts.

Reality is a bitch, the cell companies will never be able to offer truly unlimited access. The problem is you can only push so much data through a given spectrum allotment. So providers have to use various methods to keep the facilities available to everyone.

This is in sharp contrast to physical net connections as the suppliers there have an almost unlimited capacity to improve their systems. Cell towers on the other hand have very limited flexibility.

Completely Agree...

Same here in Australia. I like what this app offers but it isn't available in the OZ store.

Makes. No. Sense - Apple or movie studio intervention, particularly when I can watch those very trailers via the Apple site, or Dave's trailers, or even YouTube!!

Copyright logicistics without much thought...

Agreed. And what happened to only using Cellular on an as needed basis. I recall with the original iPad you could use cellular and just pay as you go and use.

Am I the only one whose jaw dropped at those graphics in the movie? Hair is one of the major design challenges in computer graphics. This level of detail and realism in hair was not just a difficult problem, but considered impossible when I had my computer graphics classes. Granted, that was 15 years ago, but still. WOW. And look at the bokeh. Does anyone know, is this all computer graphics or some combination with traditional video with actors?
