Thanks for letting me know. So just to confirm, when quick start was set to off you were having the HD tag issue? I am just trying to make sure that the 64GB doesn't allow for buffering and so both the 32GB and 64Gb do have the same issue.

I has the same issue with Prometheus. Is labeled 4k however pulling down the menu when watching it says HD.

Wtf is going on with this apple TV!

I have this issue with Prometheus and only this film, all others stream in 4K and are clearly 4K whereas this film is clearly only HD. Tried with quick start on and off.

Interesting with tvOS 10 you could easily see it was downloading the entire movie. You can see the blue line moving while in pause. With tvOS 11 I no longer see that. No matter if 4K or HD Movie. No matter if ATV 4 or ATV 4K. I have Quick Start set to ON which I did not change. It is either the fault or I had it that way before.

UPDATE: Looks like it is tied to the Quick Start = On. If Off then works like before. However, if Off then no 4K.

Seems that having quick start on has fixed the issue and I now see 4K when I pull down the info tab. This seems stupid though, seeing as the whole point of having quick start off was that it should only play in the highest quality available? I guess another software hiccup by apple...

I have 64gb and no difference between quick start off/on. Yesterday I had more than 6 movies that were playing in 4k and today play in HD. Jupiter Ascending, Jason Bourne, Alien Covenant, King Kong, all 3 new Ape movies and others.....????? I have signed off/on also, full reset, nothing. I have download of 390mb/s, full 4K tv with HDR.

So are you saying that you can see the buffering if quick start is turned off? I seem to be having buffering issues, and currently do not have an ATV 4k. Thanks

I have such a fast connection it is the difference of maybe 1 second but yes I can see it. Neither makes a difference of 4K or HD in most titles. I do have several that work great such as Passengers and Blade Runner but most have quit showing and playing in 4K.

Man those UK prices are far better than the US prices...

You have to factor in the exchange rates. So 9 pounds can easily be the same as $13 or $14 equivalent US Dollars - depending on what the current exchange rate is.

64GB model here. I can confirm that Quick Start has to be ON to get 4K. I turned it off when I first set up the box (as a year or so ago, with the last AppleTV, it was causing stereo sound instead of 5.1 for some of my TV shows) and couldn't figure out what was happening 'til I found this thread, so THANK YOU!

I wish there were a way to see what resolution was currently being displayed at any given time, rather than just what version Apple is sending, and what signal the ATV 4K is outputting. With Quick Start on, several movies look terrible when they're starting up, then improve, but I'm never really sure I'm getting 4K, or even HD. Swiping down only shows I'm getting 4K. What's worse is that the same thing happens whenever I pause and start again. And during a movie I'll notice a quality change and no way to check it.

Passengers is amazing
Think I’ll rent blade runner tonight

Can anyone confirm that with quick start on that ATV4 will still buffer content?
I've had issues with quick start on and it doesn't seem like my ATV will buffer if it's turned on.

Doesn't buffer for me, which is why I think the HD Content, in many instances, looks BETTER than the iTunes 4K streams. I wish there was a Download or Buffer option on ATV.

I'm wondering if this is a tvOS 11 bug. I think prior to 11 it buffered for me, but now it doesn't. Hopefully this is a bug that will be resolved in 11.1.

---- EDIT ----
I also wish that there was a download option.

It only buffers with Quick Start off.
With Quick Start on it plays instantly with no buffering in the best quality your line can handle.
It does kinda tell you this on screen when you select either option.

With it turned off however then currently it won’t play back in 4K.
