iTunes very slow and hangs for long periods

Has anyone else experienced slow downs of iTunes since installation of 10.10 and iTunes 12?

If is really slow and just hangs for long periods. If I look at "Force Quit" is shows iTunes as not responding.

What have I done wrong or should I just revert to Mavericks and iTunes 11.

I wrote a feedback regarding long startup time for iTunes 12. Over 40 sec.

A restart of OS X fixed the problem and it hasn't reoccurred.

Happens every time and has done since I installed 10.10, which included iTunes 12.

I have a very large library (64k songs, 450 films, and 500+ TV shows), so wonder if this is the issue.
