I finally found a store that I will be going by soon that has the iPhone I need for reservation. However, it says it is only for IUP, but I can reserve it. I was planning on paying full price and buying the phone our right as I don't want to be part of the IUP. Could I reserve it and just pay full price or would they force me to join the IUP to get this phone? Thanks.

Same question here...

Today i was in Aventura Apple Store(Miami) and they told me that if i reserve an iphone 7+ on the apple site with IUP (because its not available for pickup even if it shows available on istocknow) i cannot buy it with full price and unlocked(to use it in europe after). Why? I read here that its possible, and many have succeeded. What should i do? Im leaving US in 2 days and i cannot find an "available for pickup" iphone 7+ Black only with IUP. Thanks for help

It is a hit or miss depending on who you get. But does not hurt to try and ask them that you would like to pay full price instead. I was able to walk out with one before when I reserved it on the iUP link, I told the guy that I would prefer to buy it outright, and he did let me buy it outright.

Since the QR code takes them to the page for the trade in, but when the bring the phone out, they should be able to scan it as a "New Transaction"

So it depends on the seller. Some let you buy it with full price after IUP reservation and some dont. Right?

End result, had no issues!

The official Apple policy is that if you are not part of the IUP, then you must use IUP to pay for the device. If you are currently IUP, then you can reserve via IUP and pay via a different method. Now YMMV beaus ti seems some stores are not following this policy. But do not go in to the store expecting them to break the policy for you.

There's a much longer thread on this somewhere. They started cracking down a few weeks ago on people reserving through IUP and then trying to change payment, but as others have mentioned, enforcement varies greatly.

Are you sure about that ??? According to Apples web site you can either buy it outright or carrier pricing. It's under FAQ sextion.
