Why would they offer you any compensation? What would they be compensating you for?

These threads are stupid.

Quoted for emphasis. I am growing tired of seeing people complain because a new product was released. DEAL WITH IT! When you purchased your laptop, there was NO guarantee you were getting a system that wouldn't see a spec-bump in the next *insert timeframe here*. Thats the way things go, so either deal with it or DON'T buy a computer!

Ugh. People need to grow up.

You're letting the notion of time make you feel bad, if it wasn't updated yesterday it may have been updated in a few months and definitely before the end of the year, you are going to die at some point, it could be tomorrow HTH. :D

In terms of Mac? 2006 which was the Mac Pro, however, every WWDC has had a product announcement and it's naive for someone who is a forum member on MR to make a major Apple purchase the day before WWDC and then have the audacity to come here and say they've been "done". No one burned the OP. He purchased it from a place with no return policy, purchased it knowing about WWDC and even if he didn't know about yesterday's show he's a forum member (even though he's new here) so he obviously follows Mac news. Anyone who posts on tech forums is not your average Joe customer who blindly walks into a store and buys a computer that's 8 months old so this was strictly a naive move on the OP's part and anyone defending his actions including creating this thread is just patronizing him. :p
Actually, if we're to be fair, he says right there in the opening post that it was his very first post on MR.

That said, while it is unfortunate for the OP and his disappointment is to be expected, it's also true that it was an uninformed purchase and no one else's fault. Not much else to it.

I agree wholeheartedly. Maybe we need to create a support group for these people so they can cry and commiserate together. I mean, sooner or later, everybody's computer will be replaced on the market by something faster, shinier, etc. Deal with it, or wait forever to buy a computer.

Not a bad idea. I thought the age requirement for joining these forums would keep the people like this out, but apparently I was wrong.

Just to make sure I've got it straight:

1) You paid for a MacBook.

2) You got the MacBook you paid for.

3) You feel gypped because technology has continued to advance.

Am I missing something?

What amazes me more than anything else is that people actually believe that Apple owes them something for updating their lineup. Apple didn't force anyone to buy a MacBook at gunpoint. You all freely parted with your money for the machine that you wanted at that time. Apple doesn't owe anyone any compensation whatsoever for anything. You made a choice, and unfortunately (for you), they rolled out new machines. That's the breaks.

You might be lucky !! Because you could return your apple product within 14days prior your purchase :) Although you have open and used your mac. You still can return it with 2 reasons: First you are not satisfied with your mac and second you feel a new macbook is much better and would suit you best.

Apple usually grants you with the exchange, although the retail may not, I would suggest you call Apple care directly as they have power to exchange it for you !!! (I did it before cos my retail didn't allow me to return my iMac but the headquarter allowed me to)

Here are the policies on the Apple website:

Return and Refund Policy

If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a product, please visit online Order Status or call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA).

Items in your order will be divided into two groups — items that are eligible to be returned online and items you cannot return. For each item that you can return online, you will need to select the item, a reason for return, and whether you’ve opened the box. We’ll provide you with an estimated total refund amount less restocking fees, as applicable. You’ll also be able to print a return shipping label to place on the box you use to return your item(s).

Once you’ve submitted your return request, you’ll receive an email confirmation with your return details. You are responsible for shipping the items back to Apple, including shipping fees. If you have multiple items to return, you may put them together in one box with the packing slip. We strongly recommend using the original packaging if you are returning a computer.

Items(s) must be received by the Apple returns center within 14 calendar days from when the return was requested.

Once we receive the item(s) we’ll process the return, issue a refund, and send you a return receipt confirmation email.

Good Luck !!!

Good Luck !!!

The OP said he didn't buy it from Apple, but from a reseller with a poor return policy. I'd be more upset with the reseller than with Apple. But then again, I don't buy big ticket items from some place that wont accept returns/exchanges if necessary.

Emotionally, I would be as upset as the original poster. It just reeks to have your brand new laptop become old news in 24 hours.

The OP can't really fault anyone because information that the macbooks were likely to see upgrades was easily obtainable, but if he wants to whine a little bit, that's fine with me.

If it were me AND I felt like the new models were better (which I do), I would just sell it or return it minus the restocking fee and buy the new one. You're talking about another $200 or so, but I'm willing to spend that. It'll really burn in the lesson in my brain for next time.

There are undboutedly alot of folks who still don't know which model is the new or old unibody macbook, and you could easily sell your pain to someone without even duping them. It's called ebay or craigslist.
