I went from a 8+ to a iPhone XS Max and I feel like I got ripped off even with the larger screen and Face ID. I wish I kept my 8+ instead. Going from a 8+ to XR? You’re not missing out on much at all!! I’d certainly keep the 8+. It’s a sick phone.
Why do you feel you were ripped off, I’m considering that switch.

Why would anyone upgrade after less than a year of owning a phone? It's a phone.
From a practical point of you, you are right.

I don’t know about the others, but I upgrade because I like gadgets. From a practical point of view, a iPhone 6 is far more than enough for my use.

From a “desire” point of view, I find everything that apple produces really cool and want one of each. Luckily I can afford them.

I used to be like that hence why I joined Mac Rumours but I lost that desire a couple of years back. I now buy older devices as the performance is so similar year on year and I can’t get my head around paying £1k for a phone, despite being lucky enough to afford to do so. My focus has turned towards other purchases these days.

For those criticizing upgrading each year, had I chosen to “upgrade” to xr, I would’ve actually saved a few dollars per month, given the xr is currently priced lower than the 8plus monthly.

That doesn’t mean you are saving money over upgrading less often; you’re still adding on another year of payments even if the monthly payment is cheaper.

Not criticizing how often anyone upgrades...but I have noticed that people tend to do “funny math” with payment plans to justify their choices. Just own your decision and be happy with it

I just would've much rather paid off the 8+ which was halfway paid off. The very slight speed difference from the a11 to a12, face id, and bigger screen just wasn't nearly worth it in my opinion. You have an excellent phone but that choice is up to you.

The way I look at it is upgrading every 2 years for me keeps some interest and pleasure in getting a new iPhone. If I upgraded every year I think I’d get very bored with the yearly updates due to them being so minor these days. At least there is a bit more of a jump on a 2 year cycle.

Looking at the speed differences between the 8+ and the XR from user reviews it looks so minimal. If I had bought my XR last year I’d see very little reason to get the XR. The camera results look similar depending on the type of picture and to me the only real noticeable difference is the physical look of the device. This is where the new appeal lies but people should make no mistakes, the 8+ is still a great phone and to many still looks smart.

There is no upgrade program that will save money. If you get a new phone each year you’re spending and full price at that. If you think otherwise because they allow or encourage you to do it, then you’re basically being manipulated.

I’m a fan of new phones. Nothing wrong with it but wow at least acknowledge reality. People who cite being in an annual upgrade program act as if they someone stumbled onto a secret way of buying a phone. “I’m supposed to upgrade each year, it’s part of being in the program “. Lol. Apples upgrade program is probably the dumbest one to be in. A credit check each year? May as well get a cc with a bonus that subsidizes the purchase.

Thinking of moving from 8+ to XR. Can sell my 256gb for more on Swappa than I owe. Plus, Sam’s Club having $300 gift card promotion this weekend.

Both are great phones each with its own strengths.
If you haven’t already, take your 8+ to a store that has Xr on display and compare them side by side. You might decide the 8+ is better for you.

Then I saw a review that said the XR has the same glass on the back as the X. Well, my wife bought an X a month ago and already cracked her X's back glass. I have dropped my 8+ a LOT and it has never cracked.

Oh my, here we go again. Buy your wife a cover and a screen protector for christmas since she obviously can't take care of expensive glass-items. Since you talk about cars, you shouldn't let her drive yours either, because you know, the car can be broken if you crash it...

Good call. I haven’t done that. Was just seeing all the video reviews that say it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. But I should compare.

Now I have the new phone itch plus the $300 gift card when I’m already seeing phone for more tha I owe, has me wanting a new one. Maybe an Xs is in future.

The 8 Plus is a better phone IMO than the XR. Better screen, HDR playback, dual camera set up, thinner, etc. Cheaper too if buying it now...

Always amazed when "newbies" come out trolling....
