Get rid of one of your notebooks. That's overkill also. You or your family obviously have expendable income.

Everything you have is overkill.

Apple products are luxury items. No one needs an iPad.

It's the holiday season. You should donate some of your items to charities for others in need.

My wife and I decided not to buy anything for each other and are giving gifts to two local area families and their children. People just request clothes and one toy for each of their kids. We spent close to $500 for 4 adults and 5 children. $500 going to help others goes a long way than deciding whether to get an iPad when you have much more than others.

Lots of people struggling this season and you do not need an iPad.

You've got to be trolling cause reading your signature you have:
- iPhone 4
- iPad 2
- Macbook Air
- iMac (with 1TB of space and 8GB of RAM)

No one needs an iMac and a macbook air that's overkill. Why don't you sell that iMac and donate the money to charity? And the iPad 2 since its just a luxury item?

There are other people in this world that have less than you so why don't you just give all your stuff away because its all overkill.

I am a PC guy so I cannot say about iMac and Macbook Air, but I gladly submit myself as an example.

I have a Core i7 PC at home, and a decent laptop. My work is split between the two. Some of the development I do on home PC. My laptop goes with me on the field, when I need to do mobile work. My work involves router configuration, network administration. So my laptop is a requirement for me to earn my pay.

You never know. Maybe OP also in the same situation. Some people need to take their work with them. My laptop is fairly big (has ExpressCard, COM port), and I use my iPad when I simply want to watch a video, and can leave laptop at home.

You cannot say who needs what. And when you start generalizing with "Nobody needs X and Y", you simply look like a fool. Everyone's situation is different.

I have an iPad 2 for a few months now and I love it. However, I wished I have the MBA instead. I have the MBP but the battery live is too short. The MBA has much longer battery live, almost as long as the iPad 2. I watch movies a lot so with MBA, I would just copy the movies over and watch them. Where as with the iPad 2, I would have to convert the movies to mp4 format. The screen ratio on iPad 2 is 3:4 while all the movies now a day use 9:16 ratio, again, MBA is better. The MPA would allow to watch ESPN3 where I can't with iPad 2.

Did you even bother to read what I quoted? Did you not see the eye-roll in there?

Nobody needs an iPad, but after you have one it will be your go-to device for 95% of your home computing needs. It's the best toy I ever got.

Perhaps try to find the many limitations about the iPad, that at least will help to decided if you really need an iPad. For example you can't upload documents to a website for job application, the upload button will always be grayed out. I understand that iOS do not have a file system unlike Android but this is one feature I want if I want to complete rely on iPad.

Furthermore the ads that appear on mobile safari almost takes up bandwidth. I for one believe that the iPad was created to generate more money for Apple.

LOL!...Everything Apple does is to generate more money for Apple!
Capitalism at it's finest, and i for one do contribute my fair share to them :D

as K Costner said "build it and they will come"...

Ya think?? Where'd you get that bright idea? Let me guess - next you're gonna tell us the sky is blue.

All joking aside, I have an iMac, MBA, iPhone and iPad. Use my iMac everyday, iPhone everyday and iPad everyday. Never use my MBA unless I'm traveling. iMac and iPad get the most use out of all four. iPhone is basically just a phone/SMSer for me. If it were possible, I'd use my iPad for everything, but we're not there yet in terms of software development.

I agree with the posters who say of course iPad was made to generate revenue for Apple, but as for ads in Safari, what are you talking about? Any ad I see in Safari are put there by website owners to generate money for their websites. I don't think Apple puts in any ads specifically into Safari.
