YM a device that royally screws you when it gets stolen?

Ahh but part of the deal would be the watch is locked/deactivated when it goes out of range of the iPhone.

You could also have alerts when one is left behind (unless of course you mean to do so at which point you would be able to turn said alerts off).

No more losing your phone. I assume a watch could also go into ultra-low power mode and only put out a GPS signal for easier tracking if it is stolen.

A big want of mine is biometric authentication - so if the watch is worn by someone other than the person who sets it up, it doesn't work......but I don't know how feasible that is at this point.

I can see Apple doing a long, curved OLED screen that blends into the bezel so that when it's off it looks like a simple, black band.

And since it's OLED, doesn't that mean that only certain pixels can light up, so it can always show the time, slightly like the Moto X? Or is that AMOLED?

+1 Love this idea! Hope Jony Ive is ahead of you.

I believe NFC is also coming to the iPhone.

I have different views and thoughts about the iWatch than most I guess. Many are upset by the idea that it could be an accessory to the iPhone. I actually prefer this....I don't need to make calls or take pictures from my watch. I want added security measures through two factor verification using the watch and phone, a slew of sensors for health, environment, weather etc, notifications, Siri for asking general information questions and iTunes match for my music.

Other than that, I really don't have any needs in a smartwatch. And I have no desire for it to replace my iPhone.

I pretty much agree with this. I would like it to do some things as "stand alone" but have the option of many more things when connected through an iPhone. Pretty much what you stated, and more as people develop apps that work with it.

It amazes me that iPhone 6 photos have been leaked since the beginning of the year yet no one has a clear or even a blurry photo of what this thing will look like. I'm excited. Finally something that will be a surprise to us all on Tuesday.

what I would like to see

I am basically a glorified helpdesk agent; I am able to work 100% mobile with the Altigen agent app on my iphone and the Citrix and Kaseya client apps on my ipad. I would love to see the iwatch as my phone instead(do we know if the iwatch will have a headphone jack?) and pair it with an ipad pro with split screen capabilities. I know it may be a long shot but not completely unfathominable; I haven't been this excited with anticipation since the iphone 4.

The iPhone is going to be an accessory to the watch, not the other way around.

The watch will have the sim card, "secure enclave", antennae, motion and health sensors etc. but minimal processing, storage and screen. This will solve most of the battery issue.

Whatever device you are using will interface with with it using low power bluetooth, being a iPad or "phablet" or whatever . Since a lots of the sensors are offloaded onto the watch smaller form factor and more battery life.

The iPhone will basically be a souped up iPod touch.

I used to think that there was no way they would release it yet but now I'm kind of thinking they will release it now, it will probably suck, and then we'll see gradual improvements over the next few years.

People familiar with Apple's plans said it is unlikely that Apple will release the smartwatch this year, because the Cupertino, Calif., company is still working out engineering kinks in production. Earlier in the year, Apple had targeted a November release,

1st, WE DONT know if it even exists! (No Leaks) 2nd, if it does exist, could the looming DELAY in release be due to the fact that Apple is already manufacturing so many other devices already!?!?!? GEEZZZZZ ppl!!! They are already talking about not keeping up with production on just the new Iphone???? Are there even enough factories to produce all of these new devices?? 2 new phones, completely redesigned, multiple sizes, colors, memory sizes, and then the new iPads... Well u know, the same things....They would have to stager the releases due to production abilities!!!! Just how many new products do ppl expect Apple to flood the market with at one single time?? Not to mention again completely redesigned phone, meaning prolly huge demand!!! Consumers won't/can't justify or afford to buy a new phone and a watch so close together. Apple would shoot themselves in the foot, if they released all of these products at once!!
Just my 10cents....

I'm just hoping it's nothing like the mockups.. and is something completely different that hasn't been thought of before. That's probably asking a lot.. but one can hope.

Apple will release a watch with a 1.5" screen and samsung will almost immediately create an identical copy with a 4" display and call it the Watch Note 1.

How does Touch ID come into play?

Wasn't the whole thing about Touch ID was to use it for mobile payments?

How is that going to work on a watch?

It should be very apparent from the mockup that the Touch ID sensor will be embedded in the luxurious and magical faux leather watch band. :p

There will definitely NOT be a wart on the band like that horrid excuse for a device from Samsung. This mockup is what Apple would make if it were Samsung and it were copying the Gear, which would be made by Apple, which would never happen so stop with the stupid mockups already!

Apple will release a watch with a 1.5" screen and samsung will almost immediately create an identical copy with a 4" display and call it the Watch Note 1.

Then apple, a lot later and after saying you can't use a 4'' watch properly because of your nose, would release a bigger watch than the note 1 but with a 3,5 screen and less battery life. Suddenly all apple fanboys would think wearing a huge display is cool and normal people would laugh at them because they are stupidly biased but they wouldn't care because windows freezes and android is full of viruses and steve jobs said so

Safe to say this is one of the most highly rumored/talked about tech products ever. Hopefully it will life up to the hype! I wonder if it will be more than one type of watch/band and how polarizing it will be. Will people either love it or hate it... or will they be indifferent?

Personally hoping for more of an iBand than an iWatch. I like wearing regular watches and wouldn't want to replace them. Also hoping this is actually a useful product. Seems like all the rumors are imagining a product that fixes problems that don't exist. I'm hoping Apple will floor us with an awesome gadget we could've never imagined.

Touch ID

So, I guess it then goes without saying that the iWatch will have a TouchID in order to make those payments secure. That added 1/2" ring will be a significant piece of real estate on an object as small as a watch. I guess that in itself eliminates a few of the imagined mock-ups we've seen.

How is OLED for power consumption? Battery life is poor on my Vita which has a giant OLED screen... and I can imagine other components are draining too.

What's the betting that this will be the really cool and aesthetically pleasing item of jeweltech that every has been waiting for…...

….but for the fact you'll have to attach an iPhone to make it useful?

A bit like the early 80's mobile phones and their (suitcase size) batteries.

If the iWatch can make a call independent of any other tech, then its up with current innovation, sensors are really an add on (Nike band etc etc - been there done that). NFC - my credit card can do that - yawnnnn!!!. The ultimate gadget is the one that can do it all and more…..

If the iWatch is focusing just on sensing - then its already failed. IF…IF it can do it all - then it will be an innovative world leader.

My prediction for the latest release from Apple's many years of development - last years innovations and technology - no independent call - nice looking package - overpriced but underspecified.

Apple don't seem to be looking beyond the 'edge'!

Would love to be proved wrong.

Not if it is biometrially linked to the wearer and ONLY works if you are the one wearing it. I don't think anyone on here has dreamed big enough for this thing yet. Everyone who thinks it will look like the renders of essentially a tiny wrist version of a smartphone is in for a shock. This will be completely different from android wear watches.
