I don't really use pages that much, may do soon, but with keynote,

maybe some motion graphics like in iDVD '06. Custom motion paths, more 3D transitions, the ability to add frames on pictures and also the ability to morph one item into another, i.e. a word that changes into a picture etc.

At the very least they could offer some tie-ins between Motion all its feature set and Keynote. i know they're built by completely different software groups, but iWork could benefit by a slightly more "Pro" feel.

Specifically:
-- LaTeX, GNUplot, octave (I'm dreaming here, but who could argue these would be bad additions?!)
-- Basic spreadsheet featues in a separate application (Numbers): Not an Excel killer, but something that can do ~10 times more than what's built in with iWork '06.
-- Far more shape/image editing (I need to be able to cut one shape out of another, to resize groups of objects, to skew and distort groups of objects, etc.) Having that floating HUD from iPhoto would do the trick as far as image editing (for quick fixes).
-- LAYERS: Keynote would become unquestionably the greatest presentation software if they added layers to each slide. Give each layer the option of having its own transition animation (both in and out) inaddition to the slide as a whole moving in and out, and I think they'd have a winner.
-- Make it easy to integrate Flash and Java applets into slides, just like QT movies are. Possibly make it so that webpages can be navigated from within a single slide (with masks if possible).

Its kind of early to be pining for iWork '07, so I'm hoping that most of these features will show up in competing products quickly. then maybe Apple will have to react and make up for the lack of enthusiasm for iWork. (did it even get 5 minutes of the keynote?)

Very nice list!

On January 9th 2007 Apple will release iWork 07 and you will see why 2007 will be like 2007! :D

Thanks For Posting your Suggestions Hopefully Apple will implement them!

If you have anything you would like to see in The next release of iLife then please post them!

Thanks,

Preferences and the Ax

I love Pages to death - I now live PageMaker free! But, there is just one thing I want - advanced Preferences. Every single assumption Pages makes is the exact opposite of what I want, and I'd like the ability to set preferences so that I don't have to make the same adjustments with every document. For example, I want all dragged and dropped items to NOT cause text wrap by default. I want all new docs to open in Page Layout view. I want the default for text boxes to be NO hyphenated words. Minor annoyances in the grand scheme of things, but there nonetheless.

And, for the sake of all that is good in the word, just give AppleWorks back to the FileMaker folks and stop selling it.
a) It's painful to see such a great program not allowed to go out while still on top.
b) The folks at FileMaker could use the reminder that they need to add a "word processing" view and that they have access to the code to do it and do it right.

Absoluely

I doubt we will see it, because of the agreement between Microsoft and Apple.

Couldn't agree more!!! It does look like Apple has sumbed down their applications in favour of keeping MS on board. Apple does make some great applications, but their best ones are not those go head to head with MS. I wonder why????
