maybe some motion graphics like in iDVD '06. Custom motion paths, more 3D transitions, the ability to add frames on pictures and also the ability to morph one item into another, i.e. a word that changes into a picture etc.
At the very least they could offer some tie-ins between Motion all its feature set and Keynote. i know they're built by completely different software groups, but iWork could benefit by a slightly more "Pro" feel.
Specifically:
-- LaTeX, GNUplot, octave (I'm dreaming here, but who could argue these would be bad additions?!)
-- Basic spreadsheet featues in a separate application (Numbers): Not an Excel killer, but something that can do ~10 times more than what's built in with iWork '06.
-- Far more shape/image editing (I need to be able to cut one shape out of another, to resize groups of objects, to skew and distort groups of objects, etc.) Having that floating HUD from iPhoto would do the trick as far as image editing (for quick fixes).
-- LAYERS: Keynote would become unquestionably the greatest presentation software if they added layers to each slide. Give each layer the option of having its own transition animation (both in and out) inaddition to the slide as a whole moving in and out, and I think they'd have a winner.
-- Make it easy to integrate Flash and Java applets into slides, just like QT movies are. Possibly make it so that webpages can be navigated from within a single slide (with masks if possible).
Its kind of early to be pining for iWork '07, so I'm hoping that most of these features will show up in competing products quickly. then maybe Apple will have to react and make up for the lack of enthusiasm for iWork. (did it even get 5 minutes of the keynote?)
