There was a time when we had to pay for iWork and Macs weren't any cheaper then they are now. And while I totally don't support it and I'm completely against people who do this, a Hackintosh can get the entire iWork suite for free. The App store does not check the type of machine you're running, only the OS it's downloading to.
That's why I was careful to specify "running Windows". :)

Like iWork

I might be one of the few here that likes iWork a lot.

Simple and just not so much frills.

I don't care if Apple charged hundred dollars, I would still pay that to get rid of the MS Office with functions that I never use but that still slows down both me and the app itself.

Much rather have an application that I know 75% of and that I can handle than know 10% and that annoys me all the time.

Less is more for me, love how Apple integrated the use between the units. Apple always just works and that makes me happy - every day.

iWork has a loooonnnnggggg way to go before people can ditch Microsoft Office.

For work I use Office because I have to and because Excel is still a lot more powerful than Numbers.

But at home, I use iWork for everything.

Apple should be able to focus on software just as much as new product development. It's the most valuable corporation in the world and Office has been around forever. I wonder why Apple just can't deliver the same and/or more features than Microsoft Office.

Probably because of the cost of trying to out-Microsoft Microsoft on Office. Apple is about making money first and foremost. But there are times when it seems like Apple has made decisions due to the emotions of those in charge, or want to send a message to competitors.

Whenever Apple does that, it hurts them. Whenever they cast a vision, share the vision, and make it a reality, they win and win big. I get the sense that they're doing less of the vision thing and more of the "sending a message" thing.

I agree with you and if I had my druthers, we'd not be dealing with it. Not to make execuses but the industry is moving in that direction and for enterprise computing its always been that way.

For the 99 dollars I feel I'm getting value for my money, such as 45GB of OneDrive cloud storage and the office apps. 4 more people in my household will also get 45GB of storage and MS office installed on their computer. When taken as a whole its a good deal, at least for me. I agree it sucks that its annual payment but upgrades are free.

As for iWork, just because its free doesn't make it better, at least for me. Numbers has worked ok, but lacked a lot of flexibility and power.

I agree, and I also agree with you about Numbers. With Office now on iPad and with iCloud-like integration (though not as seamless) I have replaced iWork. Pages and Keynote were pretty nice, but Numbers was just infuriating to work with. I'll admit that I was raised on Excel, but even to do small tasks was a pain and I missed Excel's one big spreadsheet because I always had to add rows and columns as I went in Numbers.

I'm an Accounting major and Excel is just so powerful, Numbers is just clunky. I've tried to like though...

For new users, maybe. It's a little different situation for people who've been using iWork since the beginning and have learned to take advantage of its features. I use templates and section inserts constantly. Once you've designed a set of templates with the sections you need, the benefit to workflow is huge. I also use linked text boxes quite a bit. Both are gone in Pages 5.0, so the new version is complete a non-starter for me. So no, I'm not sitting on my butt. Far from it. Maybe it's the people who never tried iWork until it was free who are butt sitting, eh?

Text Boxes are gone in Pages 5!? (I really don't know, I just keep using pages 09)

iCloud does have folders to organize Numbers documents. On an iOS device, you simply drag and drop a file on another file to create a folder.

Just tried that with Pages and it works too! I guess we should have seen this, it behaves like iOS :D I failed to drag a folder onto a folder though.

Nice, I did not know that.

One downside of iCloud however and it has me a tad concerned is my documents are only on the cloud. If someone should occur, I lose my documents and based on one thread this has occurred (though its possible that it could be pilot error)

The thing with OneDrive, and Dropbox is that while the documents are in the cloud they're also on my local machine(s) and that's huge plus - at least for me.

Dropbox also has history which I find useful.
