This is the nuttiest "Steve would have" ever.

Just lunacy.

Not really, he was big on showmanship and PR, he understood you have to give customers a wow factor. You need to be different and give a better user experience.

Fact is if he had still been alive the iphone 5 and 5s would of been probably more feature ritch.

Steve would of realised the competition has their own versions of word processor and spreadsheet products that will soon be fully optimised for mobile platforms and would of tried to beat them to it. Especially after crowd reaction. We mustn't forget Steve did have a big ego.

Someone using of, rather than have, when speaking about this just really means that many people are not going to take such posts seriously.

And people need to stop trying to speak for Steve Jobs and say what he would "have" done…..unless you've found an authentic way to contact the spirit world, you can't possibly know!

And then you'd get a Nobel Prize, for proving the existence of the spirit and you'd really annoy all of us atheists!

But anyway, it is what it is, they are free for those who purchase new devices.

Cook should of been smart about iWorks they are great but very expensive. When he said tey were free the hall at the conference went mad then he said for new devices and it died.

He should of made an executive decision on the spot and said either free for all and give a real star of the event to stick to competitors or say that for existing customers they will be in a celebration bundle in the app store for a reduced price.

Its the sort of thing Steve would of done on hearing crowd reaction.

I'm in China. Things like a DP-VGA converter is cheaper than iWork Mobile. I'm gonna use my MacBook to do the presentation.

Yes, should've been free for everyone, I really don't think that anybody will buy a new iPhone 5S just to get iWork for free.

And I really don't think that an iPhone 4, 4S or 5 owner could prevent them to buy an iPhone 5S just because they got iWork for free.

And specially now, since yesterday Quickoffice from google is free for everyone, and yes, maybe not as good as iWork, but free versus 30 dlls??

Or make it free for everyone updating to iOS 7.

I just bought a new touch this week and got the iWork's apps for free. I was also able to download them to my iPad for free. I already had iMovie and iPhoto so missed out on getting those free. But I've had those since 2010.

I agree, in fact how cool would it have been if they replaced and updated all those apps to the look of iOS7 and had them all come standard with iOS7 regardless of a new hardware purchase.

If they were worried about upsetting old users who paid, offer anyone who purchased one of those apps an extra 5gb to iCloud.

Yeah, some people are nervous or not all that excited to update to iOS 7, and we know how much Apple loves to point out in their presentations how many people updated their iOS device to the latest version, well, this could've come in handy to encourage the people in doubt to update.

Plus, from this point, I don't think iWork will sell well, everyone know it's free once you buy a new product, so they'll just wait to buy some iPads for Christmas, or like me, just wait until I can renew my cell plan and get them for free.

Free iWork - iPhoto - iMovie post setup [Merged]

I picked up my iPhone 5S yesterday. The ATT rep just breezed through all the setup screens including having me log into my apple account. Anyway, I remembered from the keynote that certain apple apps would be offered as a free download during setup. Does anyone know how to get them after setup?

I went to the App Store and they are listed with their price. Also I restored from backup when I got home and didn't run into the download iWork apps screen during that setup.

Thanks

Did you browse around the App Store and see if you can grab them for free?

Worse comes to worst you can call Apple and have them credit those apps to your account.

Free iWork

I'm really curious to see if this works for anyone else...

I have an iPhone 5, updated to ios 7. Like some others I was hopeful that iWork, iPhoto and iMovie would be free with the update, but it appeared not - new 5s and 5c owners only.

Last night I reset my settings to try and improve my battery life. Not a big deal - no loss of data, just toggles reset and you have to reconnect to wifi etc. One of the other effects is the phone behaves "like new" and gives you a few first time messages. You reset by going to reset --> erase all settings, in the settings app.

Now you can guess where this is going. I started browsing the App Store, clicked on "Apps made by Apple" and there they all were, with FREE buttons. I installed them all last night before anyone changed their mind, and confidently told a couple of people today that they were now free - only to be told that they were all £6.99/£2.99 still.

So was it the reset that did it, and will that work for anyone else now, or did I just get very lucky? Anyone want to try?

Purchased my iPhone 5 on September 8, restored from backup, the apps aren't free for me. :(

Edit

Checked again, and they're now FREE!!!

I went to Featured-Apps made by Apple

WELL.........I just reset the phone and am downloading: Pages, Number, and Keynote for FREE!!! I already have iPhone and iMovie. Are there any others?

1. The idea that when Steve was in charge he just winged it is hysterical. I just imagine the guy back stage who's job is to listen to whatever Steve might say and then make up a keynote slide on the spot. These events are rehearsed and rehearsed and then for good measure rehearsed again.

2. There was no crowd reaction. It was not WWDC or Macworld. It was a bunch of journalists. You make it sound like the masses starting pelting Tim with tomatoes. "Witch!!! Witch!!!"

3. The thing about the 5 and 5s being more feature rich... What features? You know that Apple isn't just winging it year to year right? You know there is a roadmap. That somewhere there is not just a iPhone 6 prototype, but a 6s and 7. Right? But seriously what features would Steve have introduced?

They likely didn't make them free to everyone for legal or accounting reasons that are too complicated for them to get into. Nice try though.

Going to featured - apps made by apple worked for me also ( brand new 5S). Be fire doing that I searched for the apps and they weren't coming up as free

Posting an update from the original post. I went into the App Store later today and the iWork apps, iPhoto, and iMovie were listed as free. I think it just took a while for their servers to link up my account to a new 5S purchase. Little bit funny to see them in the old design layout. Looking forward to using them!
