Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) need to concentrate on manufacturing vehicles that don't keep breaking down.
If they did that, they wouldn't be making Jaguars or Land Rover would they?:p:D
The unreliable nature of their vehicles is supposed to be part of the charm of owning one. Especially the electrical gremlins. I am surprised you didn't know this, as it's a well known quality of Jags and Rovers.
Doug Demuro's Range Rover got internet famous. It was so unreliable that it catapulted Doug's modest fame to a much, much, much higher... modest level of fame.

People who buy those brands typically understand unreliability is part of the purchase. To be fair, JLR has done a helluva lot to improve reliability. A. HELLUVA. LOT. That does not change their reputation. Especially their rep for bad electronics.

Apologies to all from the departure from the topic. CarPlay! Android Auto! Heck yeah!!

Ummmm, 2018 Toyota's DO NOT have CarPlay...they have (gag) enTune. Toyota did recently announce that the 2019 Avalon will have CarPlay and there is some mysterious path to upgrading "older" Toyota vehicles...TBD / TBA.

Please get your facts straight.
We were referring to the calendar year 2018...yes, several of these are 2019 model years, but the announcements and launches are happening in 2018.

Has anyone actually found out what percentage of new vehicles bought actually have CarPlay?

I'm feeling like peak-CarPlay is coming shortly - as Tesla (which I seriously doubt will ever offer CarPlay) eats into the market, the number of cars sold offering it will decline.

Tesla is a hell of a small player. A really really small player. And they’re about to face some stiff competition from the incumbents.

Correct that Toyota does NOT have CarPlay. Also, they just sent owners an announcement that enTune will no longer be supported by Pandora and OpenTable and Facebook Places. I honestly never use enTune, the Toyota GPS Maps or the Toyota voice command features -- it is just easier to connect my iPhone via BlueTooth and use Google Maps, Spotify and Siri to fill in all the other functionality just fine.

FINALLY!!!

I've been waiting for this for bloody ages. Pretty embarrassing when my $115k RRS doesn't have CarPlay but a cheap little Honda does. Long over due and my only complaint with the vehicle finally addressed. Very very happy.

Better late then never for the 80 or 100 grand cars! In fact CarPlay will probably be the most reliable thing in these cars, they’ve dived in quality reports and customer satisfaction since they were taken over by that Indian group.
Sales have also declined and their profits, but its ok as they have just repeatedly blamed Brexit... or in other words used Brexit as an excuse to cover up their own incompetence! Yet endless idiots believe them when they blame Brexit, winds me up!

Jaguar Land Rover are crap. They grew up the ladder and now just cut back on things like cars that don’t break down. I see the new Defender will be pushed up maker to be a premium SUV, so much for the rugged farmers car it started out as!

Don’t worry, just do what Land Rover Jaguar do and blame it all on Brexit...

Spot on! Well Said!!!

I haven't learned the value of Car Play yet as being superior to the connected drive or how to use both in a useful way. Hidden treasure perhaps..

Damn! Only if I did some research before I purchased this pile of crap.
The worst part of it is JLR customer service is more unreliable than their cars!
Yea, and the CarPlay: I think my Range Rover is HOT without it! :p

If you're shopping for a new Toyota, you now have a number of options that offer CarPlay...2019 Avalon, Camry, Corolla Hatchback, RAV4, and Sienna all support it.

Looking forward to getting this update on my 2017 Jaguar XE. Hopefully it can be applied in the next few days while it is still at the shop.

My one spends most of its time in their dealerships up and down the country but no one can repair the damn thing! JLR remind me of my first Samsung Note 3, it worked for 6 months and literally died even Samsung were confused what to do with it! I never touched a Samsung since!
#JLRPlague, what's next? The #JLRCarPlayPlague (Sounds rather cool :D)

Reminds me of the old joke, "Why doesn't England have computer manufacturers??? The haven't figured out how to make computers leak oil...."

Wish Infiniti was on board with CarPlay.

Welp, no hope for my Infiniti to go backwards compatible with CarPlay. Also Pretty sure my 2016 Rover is too old to get CarPlay too.

Figures...

I'll just enjoy them and my phone separately cause they are all amazing machines regardless. I honestly rarely listen to music while driving so whateves.

15 XJ jags in the family over the last 25 years. Not one has ever broken down. One had a minor issue that was covered under warranty. Currently rive an XJ Supercharged and not one issue.

Not doubting your experience, but whenever I hear something like this I always ask: how long do you typically keep your cars? Because if you only hold them for a typical 3 year lease, that often ends a few months early anyways, or if you buy new and sell 2-4 years later; my response is that that is not a track record. No car should have any problems in the first 2-3-4 years of its life. Now keep the car 6-7-8-9 years, and tell me how reliable they are at that point.

I test drove the F-Pace and really wanted to like it. But was completely flabbergasted at the decision to put window controls on the sill. It was an ok car. Hope you like it.
I never even thought of that and had to go outside to check.

I suppose it is a little high up. You're right in that it's a strange spot to put them.

Previously had an XF and I can't remember where they were on that car.

Jaguar has really been killing it the past five or six years. They have a fantastic warranty program that sort of makes you forget about the Jaguars of the '90's. Or at least tries to make you forget.

I had a LR2/Freelander 2 for 9 years. It had two problems in that time :

- a wiring issue in the front left headlight assembly that melted it

- belt driving the AC slipping that took a while to troubleshoot as it started out as a “funny noise” problem

I thought that was pretty good overall.

One of my siblings bought a Disco Sport, which is essentially a Freelander 3 with a new name, and the only thing that’s gone wrong with it so far is a dodgy warning light for the AdBlue.

So they aren’t perfect, and the Freelander 1 was essentially a time bomb that would either explode in a ball of flames or rust apart , and you were never quite sure which would happen first.

Anecdotal I know, but they seem to have improved significantly in reliability in their post 2007 or so models

I’ve got a 2011 XKR Black Pack. But I like the F-Type coupe better.
