I own a 100% problem free 2017 Jaguar XE-S. This has been the most reliable and best vehicle (never mind the pure driving joy) vehicle I have ever owned. I am glad to hear I will be able to get car play but I have learned to live without it and am kinda meh about rushing to update. The factory navigation is in my opinion better than Apple Maps, and pandora through bluetooth is just fine. I don't have to plug anything in, phone never comes out of my pocket. Just thought I would share since there is so much anti jaguar sentiment in this thread.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) need to concentrate on manufacturing vehicles that don't keep breaking down. Especially when you've purchased a brand new custom build for £105k.
My one spends most of its time in their dealerships up and down the country but no one can repair the damn thing! JLR remind me of my first Samsung Note 3, it worked for 6 months and literally died even Samsung were confused what to do with it! I never touched a Samsung since!
#JLRPlague, what's next? The #JLRCarPlayPlague (Sounds rather cool :D)

Sad but seemingly true.

The Samsung comparison though is at complete contrast to what I have heard elsewhere though.

Better late then never for the 80 or 100 grand cars! In fact CarPlay will probably be the most reliable thing in these cars, they’ve dived in quality reports and customer satisfaction since they were taken over by that Indian group.
Sales have also declined and their profits, but its ok as they have just repeatedly blamed Brexit... or in other words used Brexit as an excuse to cover up their own incompetence! Yet endless idiots believe them when they blame Brexit, winds me up!

Jaguar Land Rover are crap. They grew up the ladder and now just cut back on things like cars that don’t break down. I see the new Defender will be pushed up maket to be a premium SUV, so much for the rugged farmers car it started out as!

Don’t worry, just do what Land Rover Jaguar do and blame it all on Brexit...

Actually JLR sales have only recently dipped in the last few months due to the move away from diesel, they've been trending up significantly in recent years and have run out of capacity to build new cars in the UK, hence the new plant in Slokia and the contract manufacturing in Austria by Magna Steyr. Brexit will have a big impact on most EU car manufacturers because JIT and pan-European supply chains will be disrupted in the event of a no-deal outcome.

After years of driving Audis and feeling fairly unhappy about the VW Group emissions cheating we bought an F-Pace 2 years ago. It's superior in every way to the Q5 which it replaced and we've not had any issues at all, apart from a big software update that required the car to be in the dealer overnight so I don't recognise this "JLR are crap" point of view.

It's in for it's first service next week so hopefully we'll get the update that enables CarPlay

I don't – but luckily the phone has its own screen! It's plenty big enough for maps.

I agreed, soon this phone will be replace by AR glasses. Waste of money to buy a car with firmware update just like famous slow down battery issue. :D

Jaguar-Land Rover was bought by Indian car manufacturer Tata in 2008. Tata itself makes domestic vehicles for India for $1500 USD. Can you imagine the quality of parts that go in their domestic vehicles at that price point? The only thing that's certain to work in a brand new Jaguar or a Land Rover after 4 years will be the Carplay. LOL

Tesla is a hell of a small player. A really really small player. And they’re about to face some stiff competition from the incumbents.

This article is about Jaguar, who sold 2469 cars last month in the US, and Land Rover, who sold 7169 cars in the US last month.

Tesla sold 23,175 cars in the US last month, over double Jaguar and Land Rover combined.

As for the "stiff competition", people who actually pay attention realize that the competition is at least 2 years, and likely closer to 7 years, behind Tesla:

Back to my point - I think Peak CarPlay either has occurred or will occur shortly. Tesla's growth is easily outpacing the rates of new models that are introducing support for CarPlay.

Can you share the "hack"? I have a feeling my Land Rover Discovery won't be eligible for an upgrade and it's driven me crazy that CarPlay wasn't an option.
I "THINK" the original poster was being sarcastic as was I. I plug the iPhone into the AUX jack in the back of the middle console (2011 Range Rover HSE) and change the audio source to AUX. We use the phone as the "CarPlay" screen...

I've had 3 Range Rovers and 2 Jag's over the past 10 years. Never had a problem with any of them ! Only time it went to the dealer was for it's annual oil change.

Better late than never. Wow. That’s slow.
Maybe Range Rover were waiting for Apple and whatever third parties responsible to fix the issues with CarPlay. CarPlay is really problematic and not very useful for the headache it causes. Things like blocking the phone screen for 10 seconds when you connect it, or nav showing on neither the car screen nor the phone. Way too much configuration as well. They've gotta fix it because currently an aux cord or Bluetooth beats it.

BTW, the Range Rover touchscreen entertainment system is far worse. It's got lots of features, but the UI ends up being a nuisance that makes you wish you had a low-end Honda system instead.

Even if you could, you probably would be better off not getting them.

They are very unreliable and have expensive repair parts.
Yep. Range Rovers are wonderful vehicles but break down too much. And Jaguars also break down, but they're not super special cars (though still nice), unless you count the shifter that looks like a radio volume knob, lol. Though the 2000 XK is cool.

I'll say the XE is a nice-looking car (except for the aforementioned volume knob shifter), but being a 2017 model, it's too early to start seeing problems. I think the reputation is that after 5 years, everything starts breaking. But for all we know they could have already fixed that issue.

And yeah, Bluetooth > CarPlay.

My Jaguar XE had a transmission issue the day I got it. Which wasn't a big issue to me, as I got to drive an F-type for the day. For the rest it worked beautifully, except for a sound in the roof at times. Build quality was a bit shoddy, but it's the only car I have missed after handing it in...

Maybe it’s the Land Rovers then? But as a group I keep reading they have constant reliability issues.

I do get the feeling Land Rovers are worse than Jags, when I hear friends and acquaintances. Quite a Land Rovers where I live and often when one thing's fixed another thing breaks down... One friend's LR keeps dropping bits when it's in the car wash...

Can I just say I'm terribly jealous? I just had an XE diesel and loved it. It's been almost two years since I handed it in, but I have missed it ever since. Best drivers car I ever had.

I’ve had no issues with CarPlay in my Volvo. Integration is fantastic. No delay. Yes it locks the phone screen which can be unlocked while connected. As to the Maps, the maps comes up on the car screen through CarPlay perfectly. I can switch off guidance and just get route and eta. Not sure what your experience is.

I wonder if any of this could be retroactive... we have a 2003 Range Rover and the onboard system is not great. I doubt it.

I was trying it on a 2017 Chevy Suburban LTZ. I'm not sure which party is responsible for what but would assume GM did something wrong there. Still, if that's the case, I wish Apple forced carmakers to make the experience more uniform.

I test drove a VW Atlas. I’m pretty sure it was almost identical the Volvo except that the Volvo screen is much larger but the VW and Volvo use the same amount of screen space for CarPlay.

I have a 2019 Evoque, it only came with the "Touch" infotainment system so I guess it's no go for me. Almost all pre-2019 Land Rover's don't have the two newer systems required so this sucks for many.
