Apple can't do that. That's a carrier issue.

I disagree with that now that most carriers switched to Data allowances away from unlimited.
It should be up to the subscriber how they use their allowance, and if they burn through it in a day then so be it. I disagree that carriers should have the say on how it's used.

It's even more of a nonsense idea when carriers allow tethering to use up your data allowance too - tether a device and use the data in whichever way you want, but still cannot use the data connection however you want on the device.

I once was away from home and had to tether my iPad's data connection to my laptop using USB, then on my laptop create a wifi network using that USB connection, and then connect my iPad to that wifi network, just so I could use my 3G connection unrestricted.
Then I jailbroke, and will be sticking with My3G or 3G Unrestrictor.

Annoys the crap out of me that TV apps restrict usage to WiFi only - claiming bandwidth and quality reasons. So stupid when 3G connections these days (especially in the UK, it's been around forever) are so good, sometimes better than most ADSL connections.

Folder enhancer
Allows folders to be full-screen, so it basically looks like a regular page.

How would you have it done by software?
Isn't using Activator to re-assign the volume buttons just another hardware solution?

I've never actually used Activator like you have for music playback though, but it does sound like a good way to use it. I'd probably never remember which was next/previous long-press or short-press!

The hardware is already there, but the software doesn't allow me to use it the way I want to therefore it's a software issue. It's like whenever there's a firmware update for a MacBook's wireless technology—the hardware is fine, but the software is causing bugs, which make it hard to use the way you want to.

Hahaha, you think that's bad? In my Windows days, I made a DesktopX object to control iTunes. These are the controls, which I called "really easy to get the hang of":

Activator: I had my volume buttons assigned to also control music playback; it was fantastic.

Press both to play/pause. Hold volume up or down to go to the next or previous track. No faffing about with the lock screen.

I did the exact same thing, and losing this ability is what I regret the most about giving up my JB for the betas. It was so incredibly useful that it now feels barbaric and awkward without. As much as I thoroughly get a thrill from riding the beta roller-coaster (and it is a roller-coaster), if I could rollback to a JB I would go back in a heartbeat for this.

How can you disagree (unless you are talking about disagreeing with what carriers do) with something that Apple can't control? Apple doesn't give the data, carriers do. Therefore, it's still up to the carrier. Carriers have their own rules that they put on their data, not Apple. I'm using a Verizon iPhone in the Middle East right now, but I can tether all I want because it's not on Verizon's network. When I went back to the states and used it on AT&T's network, I had those restrictions again.

SwipeSelection is probably the best keyboard/typing tweak ever. I'd love to see a similar text editing gesture in stock iOS.

Also, AdBlocker to block all those dumb YouTube ads.

I guess I'm thinking it's a bit of middle ground..
I kinda disagree that Apple can't remove the restriction, and that it's a carrier thing. I also disagree with what the carriers/Apple do.
Certain things are universal - the 50mb app download limit, which was previously 20mb, applied to all carriers. I think that was Apple's say so, and they told carriers it was going to increase from 20 to 50.
I think now, Apple claim it's carrier responsibility, and carriers will claim it's Apple's responsibility.

The one I always found strange was that you couldn't download a podcast over a certain size, but you could stream a podcast as long as you wanted with no noticeable difference in quality to the download, so probably using as much data.

Whoever it lies with, I wish they'd remove the 3G restrictions. I still don't think it makes sense for them to apply it to everyone. There's more carriers with the iPhone than AT&T these days, and I doubt that all of them agree the restrictions should remain.

Matters a little less to me today anyway, because I'm about to order an S4. Had enough of the iPhone 5 battery life, so going to give the S4 a go.
