I have a 3 year contract with my carrier on my iPhone 4. Will jailbreaking and unlocking it ruin the contract?

Your contract merely states that they will provide you with cellular service for x per month.

The phone is yours now. You are bound by the terms of the contract regardless of your phone breaking/being stolen etc.

What carrier are you using and which country are you in?

    At the iPhone hacks section.
Like Dave posted above JB/unlocking your iphone will not edit, modify or do anything to the contract agreement you signed with your carrier.
The phone is yours now and you can do whatever you want with it. Jailbreak it, unlock it, smash it, burn it etc...

No, never. All you are doing is adding more value and functionality to your iPhone. Also, a carrier could care less if you jailbroke.
