It's more likely because some people are too lazy to research before they jb. Think about all the idiots who update their phone or erase all data; anyone with common sense wouldn't do that without some checking first. JB requires you to wait after a new iOS release; some people want to have the latest iOS.
I primarily jb so that I can install the ultrasnow unlock if I need to. I don't really care for about 99.99% of the programs on cydia.

The only reason why there aren't more jailbroken iPhones because the masses have been dumbed down into thinking the iPhone in its current state is "good enough"

Recent jailbreaks 100% do not affect performance. Plus with the new tweak FakeClockUp, you can double the performance/speed of your iphone with no battery hit. There is literally 0 reason to not jailbreak at this point. my grandparents have jb phones.

FakeClockup doe not double the performance and speed of the iphone only speeds up the UIKit animations and even then it affects certain apps.

kre62, can you really not understand that not all want to jailbreak their iPhones. You jailbreak and you're happy, well then good for you. If others are happy with stock then good for them.

Jailbreaking is good for some but it 100%, without question, affects performance.

False. I'm on iOS 4.1 with Limera1n and my phone is lightning fast. The key is to avoid going crazy with the Cydia sources. My phone is basically stock with MyWi and My3G.

We're not scared, we just don't think it's worth the trouble.

I don't care if other people jailbreak but I do get tired of being told there's something wrong with me again and again.

What trouble? Greenpois0n is ridiculously easy... Turn phone off, plug into USB on your computer, run the greenpois0n .exe file, wait for your phone to restart, done. Now you have access to a whole new app store (Cydia) and can add/change as little or as much as you want. Most tweaks are as simple as clicking "install" from Cydia, then they either add an icon to your springboard, or a new option in your Settings menu. Then if you change your mind, you just go into Cydia and "remove" that package.

It doesn't get much simpler than that. And once you see all of the possibilities, you'll be amazed. Stuff you never even thought of, but now that you see it, you'll be like "yeah, why wasn't that there??"

Seriously, it's just awesome.

Animations are 95%+ of the phone experience. So it effectively doubles the speed of the phone. I can unlock the phone and get into an app twice as fast as I could before.

I find it amusing to read people argue/banter/fight back and forth about jailbreaking and not jailbreaking. Personally there are ups and downs to both, Apple seems to take after jailbreaking, they cameout with the app store in 2.0, when 1.x.x had Jb'd apps/games. then in 3.0 it was copy and paste (originally JB only) then folders (also used to be JB only) and multitasking.

I think apple benefits from having the JB community, it can give them ideas (not that they wouldn't get these ideas themselves) and they will just polish it off and implement it into their phone. I am sure it won't be too long before we see stuff like Lockinfo.

my .25$

maybe but it took apple what like 3 or 4 IOS devices before you could make you own wallpaper, i wouldnt rely on apple for lockinfo, geez you still can add custome SMS tones without jailbreaking

still can't? or can, last I heard/read you could not customize your SMS tones without jailbreaking.

I was hesitant at first but, once I did it, can never go back to a stock setup again. BiteSMS and SBSettings alone are worth jailbreaking for.

and mywi. I have no problem with people who don't want to jailbreak though. Don't see what the big deal is. lol

There has to be some kind of negative to this app, right?

From what I have experienced there is no direct negative to the battery life or RAM like mentioned above. Very good tweak for those who want to speed up animations (1.4x - 3.0x speed) or simply remove them by (10x speed)

There is however some interference with certain apps. iMovie editing will be off since some animation speeds will be faster. Also some games with timers can have issues with going faster than normal. But all that's needed is to go into Settings and set speed to 1.0X (normal speed) when using those specific apps.

But then again, Apple's animations are very nice, they are one of the little things that set them apart from the competition. Gaining a one second speed getting into an app might not be worth it for everyone.

Sounds pretty nice. Going to install it and try it out - I can always remove it if I don't like it. Also sounds like it would be nice to have an sbsettings toggle for it.

Where do you find fakeclockup in cydia? I type it into the search and nothing comes up. Also I want to know what the app is for 5 items in the dock. I don't need infinidock.

lol wtf are you doing in an iphone HACKS section, thats insane

My reasoning for Jailbreaking.... I wouldn't have even bought an iphone without it at all! IN fact, the iPhone 4 was my first iphone... and I waited to try one, because I needed certain requirements to be met before I shelled out 800.00 CDN for one!

My #1 requirement was a 'Today Screen' where I could see all notifications, ToDo's, Appointments, weather, missed calls etc all on one screen at a glance. The default iPhone method to check all of the above would require first unlocking the device, then scrolling through all my app icons to find the badges, then open each app individually, one at a time, to see the new information. <- THAT is a pain in the rump! Without LockInfo, I wouldn't own an iPhone at all! I'd have likely stayed where I was on Blackberry or gone to Android by now.

My second requirement was theming, because let's face it, the default iOS look is boring and haphazard! I'm talking about the home screen, and not the in-app look which I like. Things like a non-dynamic weather icon that always says 23 degrees and Sunny is a pet peeve, and while the calendar icon is dynamic, why can't the clock one be too?? Hey wait... it CAN be! Because I jailbroke! ANd my weather icon can be dynamic too... always telling me the ACTUAL current weather without needing to go into the app (unless I want the full 5 day forecast)

And the above tweaks... in addition to SBSettings, and a few other things I am running, do not affect my iPhone 4's speed or performance at all! Battery power, maybe just slightly because of the dynamic icons and lock screen info, but it's a worthwhile trade off IMO and I still get a full day of moderate use. For times when I know I need more juice, I slip it into the QYG Power external bettery power pack I have.

LONG LIVE JAILBREAKING :p Oh and btw, I am not a super geek or even someone who knows a lot about hacking. I a just a girl who knows what I want my device to look like and do! And I can READ so I don't mess anything up!
