I believe that's TransparentDock.

Oh, he's just using a transparent dock, that's all - nothing special.

Um, yeah, there a just a few of them out there... a few hundred...

For starters, you may want to try this site, it's one of my favorites. That should keep you buys for a little while...

Use ShapeShifter which allows you to use themes from places like ResExcellence, InterfaceLIFT, and others found by Google.

Depends on what kind of Mods you're doing. If it involves an app, then usually the app will provision for you to restore to the default. Otherwise, if you're going around replacing library/system files or the like, it is common sense to simply make a back-up of any files that you're replacing just in case.

Use candybar and you can change all icons and change them back easily and then your desktop can look like this and be reverted back no problem.
