My wife has an iPhone, and I thought that screen was amazing until I got my S6 Edge. Holy crap OLED is better. It's about time Apple started trying to make the best smartphone again, because that title no longer belongs to them.
2018 iPhone with OLED display.
And 16GB of storage.
Where do I sign up?
Sorry, can't agree. People buy iPhones because it is very very very good.
Did I mention GOOD?
Perfect is not possible, as not all usage patterns of consumers can be foreseen.
I (and I am sure many others) Do not have a problem with the current display or that it's glass.
Anybody who knows Apple also knows that they will not jump on new technologies for popularity sake,
because some geeks poo poo glass.
What happens in 2018 is too far away to even worry about.
AMOLED might be a 7S technology. They'll have the design of the 7 in hand at that point. Of course, none of that is guaranteed. I would expect iPhone 8 to be on an AMOLED display. Apple is overdue and the technology is nearly even when it comes to efficiency. So for the iPhone 8 then, after the 7 and 7s?
"Apple is playing catchup"
"LCD is good enough!"
"That's too long to wait"
"Steve Jobs wouldn't let this happen"
This should cover most of the comments in this thread.
Apple doesn't have to put the best tech in their stuff because fanboys buy it anyway. They leave the best products to Samsung.
I sure hope Apple doesn't make their OLED screens with the hyper saturated cartoonish and greenish colors every Samsung phone has.

Hilarious!!! I'm not sure if you understand that Samsung has the option to remove extra contrast/saturation to the screen. It is honestly just 100 times better in every regard. The only way that you could honestly dis that screen is if you had a personal hatred over top quality.
iPhone screen is better without question. This statement is a joke, right?
I found that the flickering was a brightness issue, the lower the brightness the more likely you are to see the flicker. On youtube someone suggest a screen filter to darken the colors instead of trying to reduce the current going to the display.AMOLED screen flicker (AMOLED vs IPS LCD)

The article talks about OLED displays, then mentions that Samsung uses AMOLED. No explanation of whether those two are same thing - or if they are not - explanation of the the difference.
Could someone explain this to us non-geeks?
That is correct, but again, there are no passive OLED screens on the market any more (if there ever were). Everything from smartwatches to huge television sets switched to active matrix long before the mass adoption of the technology. For the record there is a difference between AMOLED and OLED. http://oled.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/oled-tv-articles/oled-vs-amoled.html

Because the display makes the entire experience. My wife has an iPhone, and I thought that screen was amazing until I got my S6 Edge. Holy crap OLED is better. It's about time Apple started trying to make the best smartphone again, because that title no longer belongs to them.
I suppose if the award for best smartphone was based solely on the screen specs, you might have a point.
Not at all. It's based on tons of different factors. Don't get me wrong, iPhones are amazing and better than 95% of other phones out there. However, they aren't the best IN MY OPINION but they sure do look pretty.
